Peek at Our Week December 17 – December 21, 2018

Religion Objectives:   

Christmas – The children will know the Christmas story, be grateful that Jesus came to Earth and enjoy making a Christmas decoration.  

Seeds – John the Baptist helps us get ready. The children will identify loving actions that they can do. The children will explore what waiting for a baby entails and learn about waiting with joy. 

The Legend of the Candy Cane by: Laurie Walburg.  We will discuss the symbolism of the candy cane shape and its colors. 

Literacy Objectives: 

We will explore different Nativity story perspectives.  We will see the story through the eyes of camel, a cat, birds, an ox and the innkeeper’s daughter. 

Discerning between letters and numbers.  

Science Objectives:    

Color mixing - we will make special Grinch Dust to keep him away at Christmas. 

Scholastic My Big World with Clifford: Go to sleep, Hedgehog. Science Focus: hibernation.  Vocabulary: hedgehog, hibernation, hibernate, and snails. Using visuals: categorizing. 

Math Objectives: 

Ordering numbers 1 – 10 with Christmas trees.  Counting the objects in groups.   Patterning.  Up versus down concept. Christmas tree number ordering.

 

Afternoon Enrichment: 

Monday: Ciao from Italy! The children will recognize the Mona Lisa and learn about Leonardo Di Vinci. We will create our own portrait using oil pastels and watercolors. 

Tuesday: IXL Math and learning apps of choice.

Wednesday:  Counting with Christmas Cat. Number 13 exploration – forming the number correctly, the letters in its name, identifying the number 13 and counting to 13.

Thursday: Our final week of our Gingerbread Boy stories. We will play “Who Stole the Cookie from the Cookie jar” a game of using clues to determine the answer.   Write the room Gingerbread Boy story words.

Friday:  School is out for the Holiday starting at 10 a.m. Merry Christmas!!!!
