Welcome to Little Knights Preschool

 at St. Joseph Catholic School!

Called to Discipleship: Be Christ’s Light

I am excited to be a part of the St. Joseph Catholic School community as the new full day preschool teacher working with four year olds. I look forward to being a part of such a positive and caring academic community where body, mind and spirit are nurtured and developed.

Although I earned my education degree in Ohio, I have been a preschool teacher in Libertyville for the last 15 years. I love teaching preschool children and seeing the world through their eyes. I believe a warm and loving environment both encourages children to learn as well as helps them gain self-confidence. I am a strong believer in learning through play as well as hands on learning to help foster a child’s creativity and development. I look forward to a positive, loving, and wonderful year with your child!

In honor of Oval Day, we made oval shaped penguins.  The children also practiced recognizing and tracing their lowercase alphabet letters a - z.
Mrs. Keifer was our center helper today!  She guided the students to make Penguin Patterns using dot markers - AB, ABC, AAB and ABB.  The children also worked on writing their numbers 1- 10.
We did an experiment that show us how penguins stay warm and dry.  We learned penguins have an oil-producing gland that make their feathers waxy.  The oil repels the water so the feathers stay dry.
We learned about the Emperor penguin today.  We learned the father penguin takes care of the egg while the mother penguin goes out to sea to eat and play.  We also learned that the parent penguins hold the egg and the baby penguin on their feet under their bellies to keep to warm and safe.  We tried to see what it is like to take care of a baby penguin and discovered it is not that easy!
We learned how to use a new app today that helps us identify and sound out letters.  We learned to sweep the letter sounds that we know together and sound out a word!  So cool!
We love ipad Tuesday and IXL!    IXL math is more than just numbers.  IXL has an unlimited amount of math questions, engaging item types, and real-world scenarios.   IXL is a tool to help our preschoolers experience math that is fun and engaging!
Gym class with Mrs. Beyer's class is so fun!  We worked in teams and cheered each other on as they scored goals!
Our Morning Choice time was filled fine motor skill activities!  We had scissors and hole punchers to make snowflakes.  We had pop beads at the red table and the children worked together to make an amazingly long chain!  At the sensory table, we had wrapping paper and scissors to practice our cutting skills.  Brady and Charlie worked together - so nice!
Our SJS Book Fair is coming up soon during Catholic Schools Week!  We are getting excited and decorating footprints for the gift card drawing.  Good luck Preschool!

Sometimes you just have to dance!

We were listening to the Beatles during our High Tea and just had to dance when the Birthday song came on! Happy Birthday Soraiya! Happy 1/2 Birthday Nellie!
Ms. Nash's preschool is learning about the country of England this month.  We listened to two stories about the country of England and the city of London.  We then enjoyed a lovely high tea of crumpets, raspberry jam, homemade clotted cream, sweet cookies and tea.  Our tea was served in Mrs. Gillespie's beautiful Wedgewood china teapots that came from England! We also enjoyed listening to the Beatles! Cherrio and pinkies up!
Happy Birthday Soraiya!  Thank you Mrs. Farooqui for reading The Duckling Gets a Cookie!? by Mo Willems and the play doh treat!
Thank you Mr. Maher for coming in to helps us celebrate Nellie’s 1/2 birthday!  We enjoyed listening to Tickle Monster by Josie Bassett.
