Welcome to Little Knights Preschool

 at St. Joseph Catholic School!

Called to Discipleship: Be Christ’s Light

I am excited to be a part of the St. Joseph Catholic School community as the new full day preschool teacher working with four year olds. I look forward to being a part of such a positive and caring academic community where body, mind and spirit are nurtured and developed.

Although I earned my education degree in Ohio, I have been a preschool teacher in Libertyville for the last 15 years. I love teaching preschool children and seeing the world through their eyes. I believe a warm and loving environment both encourages children to learn as well as helps them gain self-confidence. I am a strong believer in learning through play as well as hands on learning to help foster a child’s creativity and development. I look forward to a positive, loving, and wonderful year with your child!

Thank you Mrs. Kritenbrink, our Friday Center Helper!  The children are so enjoying having parents come to center time!
We built an arctic tundra for polar bears and arctic fox.  Rhyming was challenging and so exciting to do.  The accomplishment each child felt as the rhyming pairs were made was precious!  We also continued our experiment demonstrating how penguins stay dry and making penguin patterns with our parent helper.
Our boys love puzzles!  There are so many benefits to puzzles: exercise of cognitive and social skills, problem solving, fine motor development, hand and eye coordination, and a boost self esteem when the puzzle is complete!
We loved to listen to the Adventures of Winnie the Pooh and his friends Piglet, Tigger, Eeyore, Owl and Gopher!  We all made our very own Pooh Bears in a multi-step process where we used our listening, gluing and directional skills.
It is National Winnie the Pooh Day!  We love Winnie the Pooh in Preschool!  He is a very wise bear and teaches us to be kind.
We continued our author study by comparing Jan Brett's The Mermaid and The Three Snow Bears.  These two stories are adaptations of Goldilocks and the Three Bears.  The children also made storyboards of the The Three Snow Bears to share a retelling of the story with their families.
The children decorated the classroom with icicles!!  It is looking more like a winter wonderland in Room 8!
We had our first Art In The Box today!  It was so much fun learning about Eric Carle who is a very talented author and illustrator.  The children made their own butterflies and they are so beautiful!  Thank you Mrs. Kristenbrink, Mrs. O'Koren and Mrs. Altstadt for this engaging lesson.
We compared how tall we are with an emperor penguin today. Brady, Luke and Sophia are taller than an emperor penguin!
We had our first visit with Mrs. Goldberg from District 70.  She met with our friends in small groups and had them use their listening skills and demonstrate a few tasks such as writing their names, drawing a self portrait and shapes.  The children enjoyed their time with her and making a new friend!
We celebrated color during religion today by making these beautiful rainbows!  Thank you God for making all the color of the world!
At the rug, the children built homes for polar bears.  Very creative!  At the yellow table was a very challenging rhyming game.  We took turns finding matching rhyme pairs.  We used our listening skills to hear if the words sounded the same or not.  It was very exciting when a match was found!
It's all about penguins this week!  In the sensory table we had artic penguins and other animals with icebergs and blue sparkle water.  So cool!

The children also extended their science lesson from yesterday by coloring penguins with crayons and spraying them with water.  The wax from the crayon acts like the oil on the penguin's feathers to keep the paper from getting wet.
