Peek At Our Week March 9 - March 13, 2020

Religion:God Made Things:  God Made Fish:  The children will express an understanding that God the Father made sea creatures.  The children will help tell the story of the large catch of fish.  The children will express gratitude to God for fish.
Seeds:  Jesus is God's Son.  The children will recognize that they change and grow.  The children will recognize God's love showed through Jesus.  The children will identify themselves as part of a worldwide community, each member of which is loved by God.  The children will identify the life cycle of a butterfly.
 
Social Studies:  MY BIG World with Clifford: "What Should He Wear?"  Science focus:  weather.  Health:  personal care.  Social-Emotional Learning:  adaptability.  Math:  number recognition.
 
Science:  Skittle melt Rainbow experiment: watch the magic rainbow appear.  Skittles are made and coated with sugar, so once you add warm water to a dish surrounded with skittles, the coloring and the coating begin to dissolve very quickly.
We will also make a walking rainbow.  The children will pour water into cups and add food coloring and rolled paper towels.  The paper towels will absorb the colored water and it will travel to the empty cup.  The children will be able to observe how fast the water is absorbed in the paper towel as well as what happens when 2 colors mix.  
 
Literacy: Unit 4: Review and Check - On Our Way to K! - Review concepts words from Unit 3 and and Unit 4.  What is a community:  What happens on a farm?  Read and retell stories from these units.  Review amazing words from Unit 3 and Unit 4.  Name it/Say it with uppercase and lowercase letters, same and different sounds, beginning sounds, rhyming words, break it/make it with segmenting onset and rime.  Letter of the week: Rr.
 
Math: Addition stories to 5, location words, geometric shapes, addition and take-away stories.  Count and compare, number order.
 
Afternoon Enrichment:
 
Monday: "Our World and Beyond":  We will travel to England.  The children will explore the country and culture.  The children will learn that while we speak the same language, there are many items which have different meanings.
 
Tuesday:  The children will listen to the story Art and Culture:  Big Ben Shapes 
by Logan Avery.  Big Ben is a fascinating monument in London.  It has many shapes.  We will look for shapes on Big Ben and the children will build their own structures using blocks.  We will also focus on the clock learning what the hands represent.
 
Wednesday:  We will continue our focus on the letter of the week R.  We will review uppercase and lowercase letters and play a matching game.  
Afternoon Gym Class with Mrs. Beyer's Class
 
Thursday:  "Our Bushel of Books":  We will read Put Me in the Zoo by:  Robert Lopshire.  The children will retell the story and act out what happens.  We will discuss the animals we would see in a zoo.
 
Friday:  STEM:  Using craft sticks, spoons and rubber bands, the children will make catupalts and see how far they can launch a marshmallow.
