Welcome to Little Knights Preschool

 at St. Joseph Catholic School!

Called to Discipleship: Be Christ’s Light

I am excited to be a part of the St. Joseph Catholic School community as the new full day preschool teacher working with four year olds. I look forward to being a part of such a positive and caring academic community where body, mind and spirit are nurtured and developed.

Although I earned my education degree in Ohio, I have been a preschool teacher in Libertyville for the last 20 years and at St. Joseph Catholic School for the last 5 years.  I am excited to begin my 6th year at St. Joseph teaching preschool.  I love teaching preschool children and seeing the world through their eyes. I believe a warm and loving environment both encourages children to learn as well as helps them gain self-confidence. I am a strong believer in learning through play as well as hands on learning to help foster a child’s creativity and development. I look forward to a positive, loving, and wonderful year with your child!

During Circle Time with practiced our prepositions with shamrocks.  The children all did a great job following directions.   We read a story about a little leprechaun named Shamrock Sean who went fishing.
During Circle Time we observed our “Walking Rainbow”.  The boys and girls saw that the water had walked from one cup to the next and we ended up with all the colors in the rainbow!  We also talked about leprechauns and how they get all their gold!
We had green kinetic sand in the sensory table.   The children had fun forming the sand into all sorts of shapes and structures.
Many thanks to Mrs. Kujundzic who was our Parent Helper today.   Mrs. Kujundzic helped the boys and girls make a pot of gold.  The children wrote their last names on the gold pieces!
We read the good “Art and Culture:  Big Ben” by: Logan Avery.  This was a book of photographs showing the different shapes that are on the tower.  The children  then broke into three groups and using different shape blocks they designed and made their own buildings.
Working in groups of 2, the boys and girls placed skittles around the outside of a plate.  We then added warm water and watched a rainbow form as the skittle coating dissolved.   The children observed that the bottom of the skittles were white because the coating had dissolved from the warm water.
We did 2 science experiments today. The children helped me fill 4 cups with water and food coloring.  They then rolled paper towels and put them in the cups.  We watched as them as the water “walked” (the paper towels absorbed the water) from one cup and mixed with the color from another.  We were left with the beginnings of a beautiful rainbow.
During Religion we talked about God Made Sea Creatures.   The boys and girls worked on their religion magazine and we discussed different sea creatures.
