Welcome to 2nd Grade with Mrs. Applegate!

My name is Samantha Applegate and I am so excited to be joining the SJCS family! I grew up in central Indiana and graduated with my degree in Elementary Education from Ball State University in 2017. My husband and I relocated to the Chicagoland area in 2019 where I spent the first three years teaching Kindergarten. This will be my fifth year teaching and my second year teaching at St. Joseph.

When I'm not teaching, you can find me spending time at the lake and watching college football. I also enjoy concerts, reading, and spending time with my friends and family. Some of my favorites include Diet Coke, Starbucks, and trips to Target. I look forward to an amazing 2022-2023 school year!

  • Please complete the Google Form by April 28th.

Dear Second Grade Families,

On Friday, May 5th, from 12:30 pm-1:15 pm, the second grade students will host a Baptismal Prayer Service to celebrate becoming children of God. To make this prayer service even more special, your child’s godparents are invited to this event. If your child’s godparent(s) is unable to attend, we ask that you send a substitute in their place. This substitute may be a parent, aunt, uncle, neighbor, etc, anyone who has a special relationship with your child. If your child is not Catholic and/or has not been baptized, we ask that you invite a special someone in your child’s life to attend our prayer service.

IMPORTANT:  Prior to this day, we are also asking that the godparents write a short letter to their godchild. This letter should include a special memory about their baptismal day. This letter can also include how much your child means to their godparent.  Your child’s godparent (or substitute) needs to bring this letter to the event on May 5th, and it will be given to your child during the Prayer Service.  If your child has a substitute with them that day, please have your child’s godparent write the note to your child and send the letter to you. You will then give the note to the substitute for them to hand to your child during the prayer service. For those students who are not Catholic, your child’s “special someone” should bring a note as well. Parents, please be sure to pass this information on to the godparent/substitute so they bring the letter on the day of the prayer service.

The prayer service will take place in the church on Friday, May 5th at 12:30pm. Godparents should arrive at St. Joseph Catholic Church no earlier than 12:15pm (121 East Maple). This prayer service is a special time for just godparents or substitute godparents.

We look forward to seeing all of the godparents and/or substitute godparents for this special prayer service! In order to plan appropriately, please complete THIS GOOGLE FORM by Friday, April 28th. Also, parents, please forward this email to your child’s godparent so they have the information about the letter. We will not reach out to the godparents directly.

Sincerely,

Mrs. Applegate and Mrs. Macdonald
