Homework:
 
Reading: p. 65 and 72 in Reader's and Writer's Notebook if not finished in class
Spelling: study for the test tomorrow
Math: Simple solutions quiz tomorrow on lessons 1-4
Religion: Do at least one good deed this week! :) 
Social Studies: Study for simple solutions quiz on lessons 1-4. The quiz will be on Monday.

Reading: The September book report is due on Friday, September 22nd.
Math: Our first chapter test will be on Tuesday September 12th.

Week at a Glance: Week of September 4th

 Language Arts: Unit 1 / Week 3 of Reading Street: "On the Banks of Plum Creek"
Concepts covered: character, setting, and plot, complete subjects/predicates, and background knowledge
Spelling: words will focus on long e and o, they can be practiced on Spelling City, test on Friday
Writing: personal narratives, grammar simple solutions done in class
 
Math: 
Concepts covered: adding and subtracting whole numbers (1.6, 1.7), problem solving (1.8), chapter 1 review
Looking ahead: we will have a simple solutions quiz this Thursday and our first chapter test will be on Tuesday September 12th 
 
Religion: We will focus on Session 3: God's Plan for Salvation 
Concepts covered: using free will, the importance of doing good deeds 
We will also talk more extensively on this week's Gospel. 
 
Social Studies:
Our first chapter test will be on Wednesday of this week! We will spend class on Tuesday playing a review game. Then we will begin the next chapter on American's and our history by focusing on Abraham Lincoln. We will also have our first simple solutions quiz next week.

Wednesday, September 6

Homework:
 
Reading: p. 66, 68, and 71 in Reader's and Writer's Notebook, most finished in class. Keep reading for September book report!
Spelling: Study for the test on Friday.
Math: Study lessons 1-4 in Simple Solutions for quiz on Friday
Religion: Do one good deed for someone this week! :)

In room 15, we love writing about our opinions on the board! Last week we wrote our favorite parts of 4th grade so far. :)

Homework: 
Reading: I suggest every student reads at least 20 minutes each day over the weekend! :)
Social Studies: Take some time to study for the social studies test over the weekend. I will post the study guide that we worked on in class together!
 
We will have no homework due on Tuesday, though. Enjoy the long weekend with family!

We used some of our writing time today to talk and write about how amazing our families are and how blessed we are to have an education. Perfect way to end a Wednesday!

Wednesday, August 30

Homework: 
 
Reading- p. 55 and 60 in Reader's and Writer's Notebook if not completed in class
Spelling- study for test on Friday!
Math- Finish simple solutions if not done in class
Social Studies- Chapter 1 test next Wednesday. Also, we began looking through a cool book in class today and the students asked me to post the information on the book online for their parents to see! :) The book is called Images of America: Libertyville by Jim Moran.

Tuesday, August 29

Homework:
 
Spelling: Study for the test on Friday!
Math: Finish Mid-Chapter Checkpoint 
Social Studies: We will have our first test on Wednesday September 6th. The test will be on Chapter 1, specifically on the material covered in the Chapter Review that we will do together in class.
 
Please remind students that we have gym tomorrow so they should wear their gym uniform!

Concepts covered: author's purpose and questioning, imperative and exclamatory sentences
Spelling: words will focus on long a and i, they can be practiced on Spelling City, test on Friday
Writing: personal narratives 
 
Math: Continue chapter 1
Concepts covered: rounding, renaming numbers, adding/subtracting whole numbers
We will also be completing the mid chapter review. 
 
Religion: Unit 1:God, Our Creator and Father
  • Our Father in Heaven- how we can serve God, theological virtues 
  • We will also be writing personal intentions for the upcoming living rosary. 
Social Studies: Chapter 1: Geography of the United States
Concepts covered: natural, capital, and human resources, taking care of our land, chapter 1 review

Happy Friday! There is no homework this weekend, but please remind the students to wear their gym uniform on Monday.

Math- p. 15-16 in Go Math book, all students started it in class
 
IXL Math update: You should have gotten an email with your student's username and password for IXL Math. We will begin using IXL next week and students will be given time to record their username and password in their assignment notebooks on Monday.
