Recommended Guided Reading Level Book Lists

Dear Parent,

Earlier this school year, your child’s Guided Reading level was communicated to you by letter previous to conferences. At conferences, we discussed your child's reading level. Guided Reading is a systemic approach designed to help children in a small, leveled reading group build an effective method for processing a variety of increasingly challenging texts over time. Students are also taught to “read well”, or develop high quality comprehension. Guided Reading drives students toward confident, independent reading of high quality, leveled books from a diverse collection of literature and information genres.

While at home, it is important your child reads at his/her independent level, to practice reading fluency and build confidence. At this independent level, your child should be able to read with little to no mistakes and show full comprehension of the text.

At St. Joseph Catholic School, we are committed to enhance the information and materials we have available to you. Below, please view the book list file for your child’s communicated independent reading level. Encourage your child to check out some of the books on their list at the school or public library. Thank you for supporting your child’s love for reading!

Please see the inside of your child's take home folder for a reminder of his/her independent Guided Reading level.

Sincerely,

Sharon Shute
