We love Art in the Box!  Thank you Mrs. Altstadt and Mrs. Villegas for the wonderful lesson on Dr. Seuss!  We listened to Red Fish, Blue Fish, One Fish, Two Fish and The Cat in the Hat! We also made beautiful artwork with fish using corn syrup to paint our fish bowl!  So cool!  We are getting excited for Dr. Seuss week!
The children enjoyed learning about animals and their teeth with Clifford's My Big World. Their teeth are different than ours and we need to take care of our with flossing and brushing twice a day.  We also discussed all the good foods we can eat to keep our teeth healthy versus those that are considered treats.
Jackson is showing us the new scissor grip all the children leanred yesterday with Mrs. Goldberg!  Always remember, the pinky misses the bus!  Nice work Jackson and all our friends this morning!
Morning choice time was full of puzzling fun!  The children love to out puzzles together!  The benefits of playing with puzzles are improvement of cognitive skills, problem solving, fine motor development, hand and eye coordination, practice of social skills and a boost in self esteem as the puzzle is completed.

The children also enjoyed letter writing practice with the stylis and magnet letters.  The geoboards were also out and use of these applies to practical life activities and increase the child's ability to concentrate, go from left to right, and from top to bottom.
Mrs. Goldberg came today and we practiced our cutting skills.  We reviewed scissor safety and then got to work!  Next week, we will continue our cutting skill practice and work on gluing skills too!  Developing fine motor skills is not only essential to complete everyday tasks, they are also necessary for the academic life of a early learner.  One way to allow fine motor skills to develop is to use glue straight from the bottle.  We have mastered our glue stick skills and are starting to work with glue bottles this week on our projects!
Center time with Mrs. Carter had us practicing our letter recognition, producing letter sounds and finding a picture of something that starts with that letter sound.  Our sensory table was Monster Soup in honor of Love Monster - eyeballs, purple water, glitter, basters and ladles!  At the yellow table, we matched colored hearts and names puzzles, found the matching color name on our recording sheet and colored it the correct color.  Green table was Cupid's Count It where we practiced one-to-one correspondence, our iSPy skills and writing our numbers.  At the rug, the children had to choose a picture, listen for its beginning sound and match it to its uppercase and lowercase letter.  We had lots of learning and fun today!
We colored our own books filled with information George Washington and Abraham Lincoln.  Coloring small pictures helps our hands get strong!  We also learned about Mount Rushmore today and the presidents represented in this breathtaking work of art.  All the children want to visit South Dakota now!
We honored our first President George Washington by making these masks at the art table.  We learned that he is on the quarter and one dollar bill.  We also learned that he did not live in the White House, was an army general and loved horses!
We love working with the iPads on Tuesdays.  Today, the children we so engaged in their IXL Math!  They collaborated, cheered each others successes and made incredible progress!
We learned about Abraham Lincoln, our 16th President, Abraham Lincoln. We read Our Abe Lincoln  by By Jim Aylesworth.  This is a story about how Abe the boy grew into Honest Abe our President. It is a review of the life of Abe Lincoln, done with basic words adapted from the rhythmic campaign song sung to the tune of `The Old Grey Mare'.  It was also fun to make our own log cabin!
We performed random acts of kindness this morning to show our appreciation to all our helpers at school!  We brought flowers to our office friends, Mrs. Truskowski for helping us at Lunch Bunch and Miss Nowakunski for making EDP so fun!  We also brought sweets to Mr. Showstead and Mr. Jeff for all they do to help us too!  It was especially exciting to bring notes and sweets to our Prayer Buddies in their classroom!
Gym class was full of amazing options!  There was bike riding, basketball, hula hoops and tumbling mats to play with!
