Peek At Our Week November 5 – November 9, 2018

Religion Objectives:  

God Made Holy Things - God Made Food.  The children will be grateful for the food God gives us, know that Mass is a festive meal and desire to feed these who are hungry. 

Seeds Lesson - Jesus tells us about God.  The children will recognize God’s gifts of Creation and family.  The children will learn Jesus’ rules for them.  The children will identify those to whom they say “thank you” and read about Jesus’ two rules. 

We will attend mass with our Prayer Buddies on Tuesday.

 Literacy Objectives: 

OWL - Unit 2 – Week 4 - “What do families do together for fun?” Concept words guest, music, party, picnic, and playground. Amazing words celebrate, decorate, enjoy, instrument, musician, and slice.  Break it – syllables, naming letters Ee, Bb and Tt, syllable take-away, what is my letter, letters in your name, syllable clap, name that letter, blend onset and rhyme, and delete words from compound words.  We will be reading poetry, fairy tales and fiction stories.  Reading and writing - starting at the top and going left to right, sweeping left to right and continuing on next line concepts. Focus on the letter of the week: Hh. 

Science Objectives:    

Dancing magic corn – a chemical reaction!

Identify good habits of nutrition and exercise.

Social Studies: 

We will discuss organizing our lives around time. We will identify similarities and differences between ourselves and people from other cultures. Who is in your family? 

Scholastic: My Big World with Clifford - Social Studies Focus: Thanksgiving. Class Discussion: critical thinking. Vocabulary Theme Words: thankful and Thanksgiving. Math: comparing numbers.

Math Objectives: 

We will use concrete models for subtracting 1 to 4 objects from a set.  We will make a verbal word problem and explain subtracting 1 to 4 objects from a set. Count and match numbers.

Afternoon Enrichment:

Monday: We begin our study of Spain and its culture!

Tuesday: IXL and Little Match-Up Alphabet.  

Wednesday: Afternoon Gym with Mrs. Beyer’s class. Number 8 exploration – forming the number correctly, the letters in its name, identifying the number 8 and counting to 8. 

Thursday: We will continue our Doreen Cronin author study with BOUNCE!

Friday:  STEAM engineering challenge – can you build a turkey and a hideout for your bird?  Music class with Mr. Showstead.
