I am excited to be a part of the St. Joseph Catholic School community as the new full day preschool teacher working with four year olds. I look forward to being a part of such a positive and caring academic community where body, mind and spirit are nurtured and developed.

Although I earned my education degree in Ohio, I have been a preschool teacher in Libertyville for the last 15 years. I love teaching preschool children and seeing the world through their eyes. I believe a warm and loving environment both encourages children to learn as well as helps them gain self-confidence. I am a strong believer in learning through play as well as hands on learning to help foster a child’s creativity and development. I look forward to a positive, loving, and wonderful year with your child!

James wrote his name on his religion paper. He was so proud of his work. He used his label on his pencil box to help him write it out correctly. Amazing problem solving! Way to go James!

We learned about Spain with our friend Theodore and his book Theodore's Spanish Adenture by Trent Harding. Theodore the bear taught us all about Spain, basic Spanish words and what life is like in Spain. He travels to the La Rambla in Barcelona, the Royal Palace of Madrid and all over Spain on his journey eating all types of exciting spanish foods like paella, churros and tapas. We learned about the flamenco dancers and made beautiful fans using the colors of their flag! Then we danced!

Gym time is a blast with Mrs. Beyer's class!

Centers on Wednesday was a fantastic learning and exploring experience. We wish we could have them everyday! There were magnets with magnet sticks mixed with our popcorn at the sensory table. We loved making letters with the geoboards on the i Pads at the red table! We loved counting crows 1 - 20 at the yellow table too!

We had so much fun acting out subtraction problems for the number 4! Kiss your brain!

We were a busy bunch today as we also made fall colored Indian corn today too! It was fun to dot paint using q-tips as our painting tool.

We were so excited as we counted out ballots. It was a close race for a bit, but dog came out as the winner!

Preschool got out to vote! The children cast their ballot today for their favorite animal - dog, cat, money or rabbit!

Morning choice before Mass was filled with many and fun choices - popcorn in the sensory table, magnetic tangrams, cutting shapes with scissors and leaf stenciling with paint daubers. We also made pumpkin pie for our lockers because Preschool is sweet as pie!

We love our music class with Mrs. Schneider! We showed us a book that has only music inside. We danced and had fun moving around the room to find Mr. Squirrel.

It's Hh week in Preschool! Look at all the words we know! We love to share things from home that begin with our letter of the week.

Morning Fun smiles were everywhere! So sweet!

For Gg week our science experiment was a test of density by seeing if grapes can float. In the morning, we followed the experiment directions. One jar contained plain water. The grape sunk as expected. The next jar had water and sugar. The grapes did not float!!! It was a good lesson that sometimes a scientist’s experiment may fail. In the afternoon, we tried again using salt and it was a success. The salt water is more dense than the grapes, therefore they float!

Halloween Write the Room! The children had to iSpy characters hidden around our classroom, count them and write the numbers on their recording sheets. So fun!

Peek At Our Week November 5 – November 9, 2018

Religion Objectives:

God Made Holy Things - God Made Food. The children will be grateful for the food God gives us, know that Mass is a festive meal and desire to feed these who are hungry.

Seeds Lesson - Jesus tells us about God. The children will recognize God’s gifts of Creation and family. The children will learn Jesus’ rules for them. The children will identify those to whom they say “thank you” and read about Jesus’ two rules.

We will attend mass with our Prayer Buddies on Tuesday.

Literacy Objectives:

OWL - Unit 2 – Week 4 - “What do families do together for fun?” Concept words guest, music, party, picnic, and playground. Amazing words celebrate, decorate, enjoy, instrument, musician, and slice. Break it – syllables, naming letters Ee, Bb and Tt, syllable take-away, what is my letter, letters in your name, syllable clap, name that letter, blend onset and rhyme, and delete words from compound words. We will be reading poetry, fairy tales and fiction stories. Reading and writing - starting at the top and going left to right, sweeping left to right and continuing on next line concepts. Focus on the letter of the week: Hh.

Science Objectives:

Dancing magic corn – a chemical reaction!

Identify good habits of nutrition and exercise.

Social Studies:

We will discuss organizing our lives around time. We will identify similarities and differences between ourselves and people from other cultures. Who is in your family?

Scholastic: My Big World with Clifford - Social Studies Focus: Thanksgiving. Class Discussion: critical thinking. Vocabulary Theme Words: thankful and Thanksgiving. Math: comparing numbers.

Math Objectives:

We will use concrete models for subtracting 1 to 4 objects from a set. We will make a verbal word problem and explain subtracting 1 to 4 objects from a set. Count and match numbers.

Afternoon Enrichment:

Monday: We begin our study of Spain and its culture!

Tuesday: IXL and Little Match-Up Alphabet.

Wednesday: Afternoon Gym with Mrs. Beyer’s class. Number 8 exploration – forming the number correctly, the letters in its name, identifying the number 8 and counting to 8.

Thursday: We will continue our Doreen Cronin author study with BOUNCE!

Friday: STEAM engineering challenge – can you build a turkey and a hideout for your bird? Music class with Mr. Showstead.
