Peek At Our Week October 22 – October 26, 2018

Religion Objectives:  

“God Made Water”.  The children appreciate the gift of water, associate water with life and know that water is used in church. 

Seeds Lesson - “Jesus wants us to be helpers!”  The children will recognize that care for Creation is a way to praise God and will learn that we belong to God. 

The Pumpkin Prayer – We will carve a pumpkin while reading the gospel passage Matthew 5:16 as a reminder to live our lives for God and his glory.

Halloween visit with our Prayer Buddies.  We will be learning more about each other, make a spooky Halloween craft and learn about what we do at mass together.

 Literacy Objectives: 

OWL - Unit 2 – Week 2 - “Caring and Sharing – How do family member care for one another?” Concept words baby, care, child, grown-up, hug and tear. Amazing words sob, whisper, lullaby, learn and pediatrician.   Use language in a discussion. Answer questions and respond appropriately.  Answer questions about a story. Retell a story. Understand meaning of words. Concepts of print will be reviewed: front of the book, the back of the book, title location, author, and illustrator, where to start reading and where to stop. Make It: onset and rhyme.  Name our alphabet letters.  Build a word. Find letters in print and in the environment. Break apart words into syllables and blend syllables.  Blend and segment compound words. Separate sentences into words. Speak sentences using the correct inflection for the punctuation mark.  Letter of the week Ff. 

Science Objectives:    

Scholastic - My Big World with Clifford: Pumpkin Science!  Science Focus: investigating pumpkins. Learning new vocabulary words: investigate, sink, and float, gooey, hollow, pulp and seeds.  Math: comparing amounts.

Social Studies:

Ff is for friendship! Friendship painting – cooperating with our friends to create beautiful art!  Friendship chain for the classroom.

We will talk about how to help someone who is ill and how to make them feel better.  We will discuss things that are the same at school and at home.

Math Objectives:

Demonstrate that the last count is how many.  Understand items can be counted in any order.  Counting four in any order, combining sets to make four, and pulling four apart.  We will also practice 1:1 correspondence.  Is it a letter or a number?  Same versus different. Spooky counting.

Afternoon Enrichment:

Monday: Germany continued!  The children will learn to count 1 – 10 in German.  We will learn a couple conversational German terms.  The children will make a schultute, a cone of treats that children receive with a wish for a good and successful school year.

Tuesday: IXL Math and writing with Paint Sparkle on the iPads.   

Wednesday: Afternoon Gym with Mrs. Beyer’s class. Number 6 exploration – forming the number correctly, the letters in its name, identifying the number 6 and counting to 6.

Thursday: We will continue our author exploration with David McKee, author of Elmer the Elephant.  We will read more adventures of Elmer and listen to the lessons he has to share.  We will journal how we are unique and special.  We will also perform a cool science experiment, Elephant Toothpaste (an exothermic reaction removing the weak extra oxygen molecule from hydrogen peroxide using yeast as a catalyst).

Friday:  Halloween Count and Write the Room.  Spooky Halloween scratch art.  Music with Mr. Showstead.
