Please send in your free vote every 24hrs for me if you can...I'd greatly appreciate it. I am so humbled to have made it so far already. It started two months ago with tens of thousands of contestants and now I'm in the top 5. It's amazing.

Math - None (Today we started our new unit in Measurement and started to work with measuring with rulers in class. We measure to the nearest 1/2"; example...0, 1/2", 1", 1 1/2", 2", etc.... and to the nearest 1/4"; example... 0, 1/4", 1/2", 3/4", 1", 1 1/4", 1 1/2", etc..  We also did a second lesson as well...we started to convert customary units of length. Examples; 1 foot = 12 inches, therefore how many inches is 4 feet...48 inches. Each student received a conversion chart from me to save and not lose. We will be using it quite frequently throughout this entire unit.)

Science - None (Today we continued reading Chapters 6 & 7 in Climate Change books. We also worked on the coordinating questions in our packets. The students are learning a lot and I am so proud of them.)

Social Studies - None (Today we finished reading our books about the Gold Rush with chapters 10. This chapter was called How the Gold Rush Changed America.. Some questions to ask....   For how many years did the gold rush last?...The California gold rush lasted for five years.   What are three ways the gold rush changed America?...1- People came to California from all over the world. 2- Native Americans lost their way of life. 3- Farms and ranches sprang up all around California.  We also did a Gold Rush word search which I gave each student 2 extra credit points for completing.)

Upcoming events:

~ Field Trip on May 2nd to Kenosha Public Museum to learn about Native American tribes that lived in Wisconsin and also dissecting Owl Pellets. It's mixture of Science and Social Studies. We also have another Field Trip on May 22nd to the Civil War Museum in Kenosha. This will be a great experience for the students to see artifacts and listen to real life soldier stories as we finish the unit on the Civil War at that time. More info to come for chaperoning by our Room Parent's. Field Trip forms to come home in April. So excited for these opportunities of enrichment.

~ After much research on my end, I have decided to end this year in Science with a bit of Biology. I surprised the students and told them that we will be dissecting a crayfish on May 24th and an earthworm on May 15th. I would say 99% of them were so excited about this. A couple were not thrilled with the idea. Please know that this will not be graded, nor would I make any student do something they do not want to do or feel comfortable doing. This is strictly for fun and is totally optional. If they choose to not participate, they can come to the Science lab with us and read a book in the hallway. I'm very excited about this opportunity for the students.
