I am excited to be a part of the St. Joseph Catholic School community as the new full day preschool teacher working with four year olds. I look forward to being a part of such a positive and caring academic community where body, mind and spirit are nurtured and developed.
 
Although I earned my education degree in Ohio, I have been a preschool teacher in Libertyville for the last 20 years and at St. Joseph Catholic School for the last 5 years.  I am excited to begin my 6th year at St. Joseph teaching preschool.  I love teaching preschool children and seeing the world through their eyes. I believe a warm and loving environment both encourages children to learn as well as helps them gain self-confidence. I am a strong believer in learning through play as well as hands on learning to help foster a child’s creativity and development. I look forward to a positive, loving, and wonderful year with your child!

PreK4 with our Prayer Buddies!  What a gorgeous Fall morning for the beautiful Rosary Launch and Spirit Walk!  More pictures are posted in the Rosary Launch photo album!
We had so much fun meeting our Prayer Buddies from Mrs. Ziemann's class on Thursday.  It made us even more excited to be with them for the Rosary Launch!

Week at a Glance October 31 – November 4, 2016

Religion Objectives:  

“God Made Food”.  The children will be grateful for the food God gives, know that the Mass is a festive meal and desire to feed those who are hungry. 

Science Objectives:    

Last week we did an experiment that produced a chemical reaction.  This week, our first experiment will produce a physical reaction.  Stay tuned!  We will also observe how plants absorb water. 

Social Studies Objectives:    

Organizing lives around time. We will discover similarities and differences between self/others and families. 

Literacy Objectives: 

OWL - Unit 2 – Week 4 - “What do families do together for fun?” Concept words guest, music, party, picnic, and playground. Amazing words celebrate, decorate, enjoy, instrument, musician, and slice.  Break it – syllables, naming letters Ee, Bb and Tt, syllable take-away, what is my letter, letters in your name, syllable clap, name that letter, blend onset and rhyme, and delete words from compound words.  We will be reading poetry, fairy tales and fiction stories. 

Math Objectives: 

We will use concrete models for subtracting 1 to 4 objects from a set.  We will make a verbal word problem and explain subtracting 1 to 4 objects from a set. 

Afternoon Enrichment: 

Author study with Doreen Cronin.  We will read various farm animal stories and have our own election with the characters!

Halloween Message - Please read

Our class will have a Halloween celebration on Monday, October 31. The room parents have arranged treats for the students, so please do not send individual treats or snacks to all students of the class. We will not be able to distribute individual gifts or treats.

We performed a spooky chemical reaction experiment using baking soda and vinegar.  The carbon dioxide created by mixing the two household items blew up our ghost balloon.
We made Glow-in-the-Dark slime in science!  It was so cool to see the sticky glue turn into something fun we could play with and take home!
On Friday afternoon, we counted the room 1 through 20 Halloween sytle.  The children found many spooky creatures to count and record.

Week at a Glance October 24 – October 28, 2016

Religion Objectives:  

“God Made Water”.  The children appreciate the gift of water, associate water with life and know that water is used in church. 

Science Objectives:

Spooky ghosts filled with carbon dioxide and glow-in-the-dark slime! 

Literacy Objectives: 

OWL – Unit 2 – Week 3 - “How does everyone in a family help?” Concept words chore, clean, cook, inside, outside and work. Amazing words dust, tidy, pitch, squeeze, scrub and slippery.  Break it – compound words, naming letters Bb, Ee, Mm and Tt.  Play name it/say it letters.  Blending onset and rhyme.  Naming playground words. We will work on writing the letter Gg and finding it in our environment around us. 

Math Objectives: 

Color by numbers 1 through 5.  Counting dots and recognizing the number counted.  How many fingers in all? Different ways to make the number 4.  Adding one more. How many animals in the barn? Review counting items in any order up to four. 

Afternoon Enrichment: 

Concepts of print using Halloween story books.  Halloween counting and alphabet reinforcement fun!
