Week at a Glance: February 12 - February 16

Reminders for this week: 
- 100th day of school Monday
- Valentine’s Day party is on Tuesday, February 13
- $1 dress down day Tuesday, February 13
- Ash Wednesday Mass is February 14

Math: This week we will finish Chapter 7: Patterns and Sequences and begin Chapter 8: Fractions. We will finish Chapter 7 with covering lessons 7 and 9 on Monday and Tuesday. The students will review Chapter 7 on Wednesday and take the test on Thursday. We will begin exploring Chapter 8 on Friday. 
Objectives:
- Students will use the order of operations to solve problems. 
- Students will use tables to recognize and write equations with two or more operations. 
- Students will find factors and multiples of whole numbers. 
 
Social Studies: The students will continue to work on their Midwest Tour project. Each group of students are researching various aspects of the Midwest, such as transportation, climate, water, landmarks, and Native Americans. The students will complete the research packet with their group and work together to create a presentation on their findings. 
Objectives: 
- Apply map skills to locate geographical sites of the Midwest
- Categorize key elements of the economy, geography, transportation, history, and people of the Midwest over time. 
 
Religion:  This week we are preparing ourselves for Lent. The children will learn more about the season of Lent, the importance of praying, fasting, and giving. We will also focus on ways we can be more like Jesus. 
Objective: 
- Consider how Scripture and Traditions can deepen our understanding of the content.
 
LA/Reading: We are taking a step away from our Literacy books and moving onto a novel study this week. We will be reading Sadako and The Thousand Cranes. We will begin reading the first few chapters this week, focusing on comprehension and vocabulary. We will also explore the geography and history of Japan.
Objectives:
- Be familiar with Sadako’s story.
- Be introduced to children’s feelings under the effects of wars and disasters.
 
Spelling: Our spelling words for this week come from Sadako and The Thousand Cranes. Objectives:
- Demonstrate and apply phonetic knowledge.
- Demonstrate and apply spelling knowledge.
