Week At a Glance - Monday, April 29 - Friday, May 3

Notes:  Permission slips for our Field Trip to the Chicago Botanical Gardens are due tomorrow. 
 
Math Boot Camp:  Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday. 2:00-3:00.
 
Reading/LA:  This week we are back in our Saavas - My View reading book. 
Unit 5 is all about Earth and learning its features. 
U5W1 - Informational text - "from Planet Earth," by Christine Taylor Butler. 
Our grammar this week focuses on Adjectives and Articles. 
 
 Objectives:
- Recognize characteristics and structures of informational text, including features to support understanding.
-Analyze the author’s use of print and graphic features to achieve specific purposes.
- Demonstrate and apply phonetic knowledge.
- Compose literary texts using genre characteristics and craft.
 
Spelling: Spelling this week focuses on the Latin Roots gener, port, dur, and ject.
Monday: Spelling Choice
Tuesday: Spelling Sheet
Wednesday - Spelling Choice 
Thursday - Spelling Choice 
Friday - Spelling Test
 
Math:  We will wrap up Chapter 11 this week completing Customary Measurement. 
Wednesday will be a review day.  We will review Chapter 11 lessons 1-9. Our chapter test will be on Thursday. 
 
Objectives:
- Estimate lengths using customary units, such as estimating the length of common objects in feet or inches.
- identify and understand the basic units of customary measurement, including inches, feet, yards, and miles, and their relationships to each other
 
Science: Unit 5  - Ecosystems. We will cover lesson 1 - "What are Ecosystems?" and lesson 2 "How do living things affect the environment?"
Objectives:
Lesson 1: Students will obtain information to describe the parts of ecosystems and will identify some examples of ecosystems.  Students will also analyze how specific structures of organisms help them live in their habitats. 
Lesson 2: Students will analyze how a sudden change in one group of organisms affects another group of organisms. 
 
Students will also visit the science lab to close out our study on the life cycle of a chicken.  The chickens have hatched and we will be able to hold them!
