Peek At Our Week May 29 - June 2, 2023

Religion:  God Made Nations:  The children will express an understanding that God the Father made and loves all people.  The children will show respect for people from other nations and express an appreciation for the variety among people. Special Lesson:   Birthdays: The children will express an understanding that their lives are a gift from God the Father.  The children will thank God  for their lives and celebrate their lives..

Literacy: OWL:  Unit 6 : Week 5:  On Our Way to K!  Concept Words:  day, hot summer, frog.  Amazing Words:  patter, splash, spot.  Academic Vocabulary:  activity, begin, count, letter, sound.  Phonological Awareness:  produce words that begin with the same sound.  Recognize letter sounds.  Alphabet Knowledge: Recognize and name lowercase letters in your own name.  Blend phonemes.  Demonstrate understanding of the meaning of words. 

Math:  Recognize and create patterns.  Coordinate a sequence of movements.  Participate in classroom music activities.  2D shape sorting.  Concepts of biggest and smallest.  Counting with one item per count.

Science:  An early summer fireworks experiment.  The boys and girls will help make “Fireworks in a Jar”.  Using warm water, vegetable oil, and food coloring they will watch as the color sinks, expand and mix.  This is due to the fact that  food coloring dissolves in water but not in oil.  Because oil is less dense than the water, the oil will float to the top of the jar.  The food coloring droplets will begin to sink because they are heavier than the oil.  Once they sink into the water, they will begin dissolving into the water which looks like a tiny explosion.We will also discuss safety rules:  How can we be safe at home, in the classroom and outside?? Demonstrate ways to stay safe.  

Social Studies:  Scholastic:  My BIG World Clifford:  Baby Shark”:  Science Focus:  animal behavior.  Theme Vocabulary:  lemon shark, blue crab.  Skills We’re Practicing:  group discussion, critical thinking, vocabulary, number recognition, counting.

Scholastic:  My BIG World Clifford:  “Water Play”:  Health and Safety Focus:  water safety.  SEL Focus:  responsible decision making.  Theme Vocabulary:  ocean, beach, pool, lake, sprinklers, lifeguard.  Skills We’re Practicing:  group discussion, critical thinking,vocabulary, shape recognition, shape recognition, fine motor skills.

Afternoon Enrichment

Monday:  NO SCHOOL/ MEMORIAL DAY

Tuesday:  Letter and number review.  The boys and girls will go on a letter scavenger hunt outside.  How many things can we find for each letter/\

Wednesday:  We will work on making a variety of patterns using items in the classroom.  The boys and girls will use non standard measuring tools to measure objects around the room.

Thursday:  Bushel of Books:We will read:  "Swimmy" by Leo Leonni.  We will sequence the story and the boys and girls will make their own Swimmy the Fish using markets and water

Friday:  Outside fun!  We will spend the afternoon outside playing a variety of games!
