The children had a lesson on the art, culture, sights and food of Ireland.  We learned about Mary Swanzy who came from Ireland. She was born in Dublin, Ireland in 1882 and  was one of Ireland’s first abstract or “modern” painters.  One of her favorite styles of painting was Cubism. This was an art movement where artists did not try to depict realistic views of their subject.  Instead, the subject matter is broken up into different shapes and angles.  We used oil pastels and became cubists as we created our own abstract shamrocks. Amazing!
