Peek At Our Week January 28 – February 1, 2019

Religion Objectives:  

Unit 4: God made the Earth - God Made Flowers. The children will know that God made a variety of flowers and appreciate God’s gift of flowers.  The children will realize that creation demonstrates God’s goodness and wisdom. 

Seeds – Jesus cares about families. The children will recognize that weddings are celebrations of family.  The children will recognize that Jesus cares about families and recognize the importance of families spending time together. 

Science Objectives:   

Hot vs. cold.  Candy Heart Science – will the candy sink or float in different liquids.  Which liquid dissolves the candy the fastest? 

Literacy Objectives: 

PreK4 – Unit 4 – Week 2 – Out in the Fields – How do machines help farmers?  Learn new concept words: field, row, seed, soil, and tractor.  Learn amazing words: crowd, fancy, pond, fair, parade and startle.  Delete onsets, letter naming, ending sounds. Our featured story is Otis.  Matching uppercase to their lowercase letters. Listening comprehension: following three-step directions, respond appropriately, label categories of words. Oral language: demonstrate meaning of words.  Concepts of print. Letter of the week Oo. Recognizing letters of the alphabets represented in different fonts. Matching beginning sounds m-r and s – x. 

Math Objectives: 

Numbers & operations: compare numbers in sets. Verbally identify, without counting, number of objects from 1 to 5. Use concrete models and make word problems for adding up to 5 objects. Sorting groundhogs by size.  Patterning. Symmetry.  Recreating snowflakes from nature with Biggie Beadz and Tangrams. 

Social Studies: 

Voting as a method for group decision making. Connecting past events with present and future events.

Afternoon Enrichment: 

Monday: We will read books from Michael Bond, the English author of Paddington Bear.  We will make our own Paddington Bear. 

Tuesday: IXL Math and app of their choice.

Wednesday: Afternoon Gym with Mrs. Beyer’s class. Number 16 exploration – forming the number correctly, the letters in its name, identifying the number 16 and counting to 16.  Number games.

Thursday: Author study with Audrey Penn author of The Napping House and The Full Moon at the Napping House.     

Friday:  STEAM – Computer Talk – writing our names in ASCII.  Music class with Mr. Showstead.
