Peek At Our Week May 21 – May 24, 2018

Religion Objectives:

Last Class/Summer – Summer is a time to enjoy the world God made for us. The children will anticipate summer fun and thank God for the experiences of preschool.

God’s Paintbrush – a special lesson where our children encounter God openly through moments in their own lives.

The Prayer that Makes God Smile – a special lesson about God’s everlasting love and the power of prayer.  The children are reassured that their prayers are meaningful to God and that He always listens to them. God’s love is a forever love and the children learn how to give thanks for family and friends, give their wants and needs to their heavenly Father, and trust Him to do what is right for their lives. The children will pray the best prayer of all―asking Jesus to come into your heart and we will pledge our love to Him.

God Loves Me More Than That – a special lesson where the children learn that God loves them deeper than a wishing well, wider than a semi-truck, louder than thunder, and softer than a kitten’s sneeze. The children will grasp the great love of God through comparisons and descriptions they can easily understand. They’ll discover that His love is bigger, wider, higher, and deeper than anything they could imagine!

Science Objectives:

We will be planting our pumpkins and sunflowers in the preschool pumpkin patch. We will also have more shadow fun with dinosaurs and blocks.

Social Studies Objectives:

Discussion of feelings when it is time to say good-bye.

Literacy Objectives:

We love our Heggerty Phonemic Awareness activities.

We will explore the story of Swimmy by Leo Lionni.  This Caldecott Honor story takes place in the deep sea where a happy school of little fish live. Their watery world is full of wonders, but danger comes and the little fish are afraid to come out of hiding until Swimmy comes along. Swimmy shows his friends how—with ingenuity and team work—they can overcome any danger. We will make a watercolor process art rendition of Swimmy with dreamy ocean colors and cheerful fish!

Math Objectives:

The children will be counting and graphing up to 5, review the concepts of more and less and complete spring time patterns.

Afternoon Enrichment:

Monday: The children complete their exploration of Africa with Hans Christian Andersen’s story of The Princess and the Pea. This version is by Rachel Isadora.  She has illustrated many books set in the world of dance and theater and has received the Caldecott Honor Award and the Boston Globe-Horn Book Honor Award.

Tuesday: IXL Math and apps of their choice.

Wednesday: Afternoon Gym and Media CAPE with Mrs. Beyer’s class.
