Week at a Glance 4/15/22-4/19/22

Week at a Glance

Week of April 15-19, 2024

Math: We will start a short chapter on money next week. Students will work on identifying coins and counting amounts of coins. Students can benefit from extra practice at home with skip counting by ones (pennies), fives (nickels), tens (dimes), and twenty-fives (quarters). Students can also practice counting on from different amounts (e.g., start at 25 and then count on by tens).

Phonics (Fundations): We will review vowel teams oa, oe, ow (long o double vowel syllables), and we will also practice our trick words cousin, Monday, Tuesday, beautiful, lose, and tomorrow. After we take our assessment on Tuesday, we will move to Unit 14, which focuses on the /ou/ (like plow) sound of ow and ou. Other examples include words like flower, shout, outside, etc. The new trick words for the week will be: bought, brought, piece.

Reading and Writing (Wit & Wisdom): We will wrap up Module 2 (they have learned so much about westward expansion and life of the early Americans) with our paragraphs comparing the two versions of the legend of John Henry. They will also complete an opinion paragraph about their favorite book from the module with supporting reasons.

Science: None - see Social Studies

Social Studies: We will learn about what citizens are and how we can be good citizens by helping our community. We will discuss how to follow directions, how to care for the community, and how to be responsible.

Religion: We will spend the next couple of weeks reviewing for First Communion. We will continue working through our mini books about the Mass and the responses we sing and say. We will also read some picture books to remind us about God’s love for us and why the sacrament of the Eucharist is so important. We will practice receiving unconsecrated hosts with Ms. Nelson from the parish office as well.
