Week at a Glance: 4/22/24-4/26/24

Week at a Glance

Week of April 22-27, 2024

Math: We will continue working with money as we work through Chapter 8. Students will solve word problems with money, use different combinations of coins to make one dollar, and try to make different amounts with the least amount of coins. They will also work on reviewing concepts from the earlier lessons in the chapter, leading up to a quiz on Tuesday, April 30th.

Phonics (Fundations): We will continue working through Unit 14 next week. Students will read and spell words with double vowel /ou/ syllables (ou and ow). They will spell trick words Tuesday, Thursday, Saturday, bought, brought, and piece. Additionally, students will read on level decodable passages with proper fluency.

Reading and Writing (Wit & Wisdom): We are starting a new module (huzzah!) all about Civil Rights Heroes. Students will be able to define the words “unfair,” “injustice,” “protest,” and “refuse.” We will read and discuss the stories Ruby Bridges Goes to School: My True Story and Martin Luther King and the March on Washington. Students will be able to discuss what we can learn from historical photos and what they notice and wonder about the texts.

Science: None - We will start our next Science unit the week of 5/6.

Social Studies: We will wrap up our chapter about Civics as we discuss what communities share. Students will locate places on a political map, identify how communities share to meet their wants and needs, and discuss community celebrations to show how people share pride in our country.

Religion: We will continue reviewing for First Communion. We will continue working through our mini books about the Mass and the responses we sing and say. We will also read some picture books to remind us about God’s love for us and why the sacrament of the Eucharist is so important.
