Week at a Glance 3/11/24-3/15/24

Week at a Glance --> March 11-15, 2024

Math: We will finish up Chapter 7 next week, and we will take our assessment on Friday. Students will practice problems with a 0 in the tens place, and we will explore two options for how to solve these types of problems. We will also spend some time reviewing for our test. Please note there will not be any official Math homework next Tuesday, Wednesday, or Thursday, but students should continue practicing their subtraction fact fluency and 3-digit subtraction problems.

Phonics (Fundations): We will continue to read and write words with long e vowel teams (ea, ee, ey).  Students will take their assessment on Thursday, so they should continue to practice writing the following trick words: son, won, whose, head, ready, breakfast. Next Friday we will start Unit 12, where students will focus on words with oi and oy (double vowel) syllables.

Reading and Writing (Wit & Wisdom): We will read one more version of Johnny Appleseed (by Steven Kellogg) and a Scholastic News article entitled “Who Was Johnny Appleseed?” We will identify story elements, and we will also compare and contrast the different versions of the story. Students will also continue to work with irregular past tense verbs to help improve their informational paragraphs moving forward.

Science: We will work through our final lesson about plants next week. In this lesson, students will investigate how different plants grow best under very different conditions, ranging from deserts to tropical rainforests. In the activity, students will plan and conduct virtual experiments in order to determine how much water and sunlight a set of mystery plants need to grow and stay healthy. The lesson also features videos of the Mitchell Park Domes, which are located in Milwaukee. (If you ever get a chance to go, I highly recommend it!)

Social Studies: None - see Science

Religion: If you are following along at home in the “Together” magazine (which we highly recommend), please be sure to view the pages from Session 5, which focuses on the topic of preparing. In class we will study the story of the loaves and fishes, discuss the preparation of the gifts during Mass, and explain how the bread and wine represent all that we offer to God from our lives.
