Week at a Glance 3/4/24-3/8/24

Week at a Glance

Week of 3/4/24-3/8/24

Math: We will continue working through our chapter on 3-digit subtraction. Students will work on regrouping hundreds for tens and tens for ones, and they will work to apply problem solving skills to word problems. They will also rewrite horizontal subtraction problems vertically, paying special attention to lining up the place values. Students should continue practicing basic subtraction facts at home to aid in these skills.

Phonics (Fundations): The students have started working on double vowel syllables with long e sounds, specifically using spelling patterns ea, ee, ey. They will continue to read and spell words with these patterns. They will also decode and encode the following trick words: whose, son, won, head, breakfast, ready.

Reading and Writing (Wit & Wisdom): We will dive deeper into a study of the legend of Johnny Appleseed next week. Students will recount story elements (characters, setting, problem, resolution/solution), and discuss the central lesson learned from the legend, along with key supporting details. Additionally, students will identify irregular past tense verbs and use them correctly in sentences.

Science: As we continue our study of plant adaptations, we will face the question “Can a plant survive without light?” Students will watch videos from Mystery Science, participate in discussions, and even grow plants from lima beans in our classroom.

Social Studies: None - see Science

Religion: *Please note we will be in Session 4 in our God’s Gift Eucharist books, and you are encouraged to follow along at home with the corresponding “Together” magazine pages. Next week’s topic focuses on listening. More specifically we will discuss how we listen to God’s word at Mass and how we listen to God in prayer as His word grows in our hearts.
