Week at a Glance for September 4th

Week at a Glance

Week of: September 4 - September 7, 2018

Math: We will continue to learn different strategies and review the previously learned strategies for addition problems. We will also start to explore different strategies for subtraction problems. Please expect daily Math homework practice pages from the Go Math! book, as well as from the Simple Solutions book.

***Next week’s online IXL practice = C.1 and P.8 (additional optional IXL practice = C.3 (word problems)

Science: Please visit Ms. Papagianis’s page for Science information

Language Arts: Our spelling list for the week focuses on forming plurals of words by adding -s, -es, or -ies. The grammar skill of the week is identifying subjects and predicates in sentences. In writing, we will continue to work on character development and identifying character traits as part of our preparation for narrative writing.

Reading: Our weekly story selection is a folktale entitled What About Me? The comprehension strategy of the week is sequencing events of a story (focusing on what happens in the beginning, middle, and end of a fiction text).

Social Studies: We will add another “hello” to our passports. Additionally we will identify cardinal and intermediate directions on a compass and learn how to use grid maps as we learn about where communities are located.

Religion: This week we will discuss the church season of Ordinary Time as we attend Mass, read from our text, and participate in different individual and small group activities in the classroom.

Tests and Quizzes:

Your child will have a Spelling and a Reading test on Friday. You can find the spelling list on the Spelling tab. The Reading test goes with our story and vocabulary terms of the week.

Your child will also have a short Simple Solutions Math quiz midweek (most likely Wednesday).
