Great job to all the 5th graders that participated in this afternoons Variety Show. I was very proud of all of you!!

Math - None (Today we described the attributes of three-dimensional figures. All work was done in class and turned into me.)

Science - None (Today we finished our Thomas Edison book by reading the last chapter and answering the questions for it in our comprehension packet. All books and packets were turned into me today for a grade.)

Social Studies - None (Today we started our What was Reconstruction books and comprehension packets. This was an important time after the Civil War to learn about that I added into the Curriculum. We finished the book today by reading chapter 10. All books and packets were turned in for a grade. Ask your child to tell you 3 facts they learned in todays reading.)

Reminders:

- I offer office hours Monday - Thursday if your child needs me to reteach something in Math, Science or Social Studies. Please email me for assistance and we will meet via google meet link.

- I offer afterschool Math group ENRICHMENT on Thursday's of every week until 3:15pm. Some weeks we review and some weeks we go ahead and learn the next lessons. We will also work on strengthening our math facts in multiplication. It is $30 per week if you'd like to join. You can come and go from week to week, but it is very beneficial. Contact me with any questions.

Upcoming events:

~  Field Trip on May 22nd to the Civil War Museum in Kenosha. This will be a great experience for the students to see artifacts and listen to real life soldier stories as we finish the unit on the Civil War at that time. Field Trip form to come home in May. So excited for this opportunity of enrichment.

~ After much research on my end, I have decided to end this year in Science with a bit of Biology. I surprised the students and told them that we will be dissecting a crayfish on May 24th. I would say 99% of them were so excited about this. A couple were not thrilled with the idea. Please know that this will not be graded, nor would I make any student do something they do not want to do or feel comfortable doing. This is strictly for fun and is totally optional. If they choose to not participate, they can come to the Science lab with us and read a book in the hallway. I'm very excited about this opportunity for the students.

I surprised the students and told them that we will be dissecting a crayfish on May 24th and an earthworm on May 15th.

Monday, May 6, 2024 Homework

Field Trip forms for the Civil War Museum in Kenosha have been sent home. The forms are due back by May 17th with a payment of $17 either via cash or check made out to St. Joseph Catholic School. Thank you very much!

Math - None (We started our iReady Spring diagnostic today in Math. We are going nice and slow.)

Science - None - Bubis only (We took our open book Chapter 5 test today with helpful hints from me on where answers were located. I told them the page numbers, but they had to find them. My classroom will take this test tomorrow.)

Social Studies - None, but D.O.G. was passed out and due by Friday (Today we chapters 7 & 8 in our Escape By Night book. Some questions to ask:  Why does Tommy need to get rid of Annie?...Tommy didn't want Annie to spill the secret about the soldier.  What did Red dream about?...He dreamt about crossing a bridge and that bridge might be a bridge to freedom, but his dream ended before he knew if he got to cross the bridge.  Prediction: What do you think Tommy is going to do about Red?...talk this out and anything reasonable will do for an answer)
