Week at a Glance: February 22-26

Week of February 22 (*Some objectives are subject to change based on students’ needs.)

*Reminder: Trimester 2 ends Friday, February 26; check PowerSchool for any missing assignments.

Reading: 

  • Show comprehension of the vocabulary words from Ch. 9-12 of Hatchet with correct answers on the vocabulary quiz (5K will take the quiz on Thursday, February 25, and 5B will take the quiz on Friday, February 26.)
  • Read and discuss Chapters 11 & 12 of Hatchet
  • Continue developing character web for Brian – the main character in Hatchet
  • Learn about and complete an activity on figurative language – similes, metaphors, and personification
  • Complete a close reading activity for Ch. 11.

Language Arts: 

  • Continue practicing Daily Oral Language (DOL) skills  
  • Learn about reflexive and indefinite pronouns
  • Show comprehension of Week 17 spelling words

Social Studies: 

  • Show understanding of Chapter 3 Lesson 2 with correct answers to the lesson review
  • Learn vocabulary words/phrases from Ch. 3 Lesson 3
  • Summarize the sequence of events leading to a permanent settlement in Virginia
  • Trace the development of representative government in Virginia
  • Analyze text by asking questions before, during, and after reading
  • Summarize the religious and economic reasons that prompted Pilgrims and Puritans to settle in New England
  • Explain the significance of the Mayflower Compact
  • Describe the relationship between American Indians and English settlers in New England
  • Describe the kinds of communities the Pilgrims and Puritans created, including the influence of religion on a daily life
  • Correctly use a map of Canada to answer questions about its various regions
