Week at a Glance November 14 – November 18, 2016

Religion Objectives:  

“God Made the Earth – God made Air” - The children will know what air does for us, appreciate the gift of air and associate air with God and God’s life.   

Seeds: The children will learn about and appreciate God’s gifts from the earth. The children will prepare to celebrate Thanksgiving talking about all the things we are so thankful for. 

Prayer Buddies: The children look forward to meeting with our fourth grade Prayer Buddies from Mrs. Ziemann’s class this week. The children will work together to create their own Gratefulness Rocks.  Gratefulness Rocks are a fun way for the whole family to share what’s most important while creating a visual reminder of the things we’re blessed with. They can be used as a decoration on your Thanksgiving table. 

Science Objectives:    

We will use our creativity with a nature study and by growing our own food using an organic sweet potato. 

Literacy Objectives: 

PreK4 – OWL – PreK4 - Unit 3 – Week 1 - “What is in our community?” Concept words hospital, house, library, post office, park, and street. Amazing words bridge, entrance, traffic, fountain, statue, and gift.  Break It with onsets and rhyme, letter naming, if your name, delete syllables, and take away word parts, recognizing authors and illustrators.  We are reading poetry and realistic fiction this week. I will model predicting, fluent reading, picture walking and discuss plot. Our social studies focus will be on the workers in our community.  Letter Ii study. 

Social Studies Objectives: 

Discuss what we can do in our community. We will learn to be thankful for people and things around us. We will make a group decision when we work together and decide what to by voting.  

Scholastic: My BIG World -The Thanksgiving story. 

Math Objectives:

We will locate items in our classroom, locate things in our neighborhood, listen and do, and take away from 4 and one to one correspondence. 

Afternoon Enrichment: 

A Ball for Daisy by: Chris Raschka.  The children will explore the narrative writing process and create their own story for a wordless book.
