6th Grade Science:  Star Systems and Galaxies

Schedule Notes:

• There are no block schedules this week.

Star Systems and Galaxies

• Students will develop and use a model to describe the role of gravity in the motions within galaxies and the solar system.
• Students will be able to define a star system and identify the major types of galaxies.

We will be learning about star systems and galaxies. Students will conduct research on the planets and solar system. There will be a quiz on this lesson on Friday, June 2nd. Please encourage students to thoroughly review all notes and resources available on Google Classroom.

 7th Grade Science: Cell Analogy Project

Schedule Notes:

Cell Analogy Project

• Students will review concepts covered about plant and animal cells while working on a cell analogy project. They will create an analogy of a cell and at least seven organelles.

6th Grade Science:  Storms

• Students will develop and use models to identify the main kinds of storms and explain how they form.
• Students will apply scientific principles to describe measures that can be taken to ensure safety in a storm.

We will be concluding our lesson on storms. Students will review the key concepts of this lesson and participate in a lab on hurricanes. There will be a quiz on this lesson on Thursday, May 18th. Please encourage students to thoroughly review all notes and resources available on Google Classroom.

7th Grade Science: Probability and Heredity

Schedule Notes:

• There are no block schedules this week.
• Thursday: Gold has science before lunch. Black has science after lunch.
• Friday: Gold has science at 9:31 and Black will have science at 10:58

Probability and Heredity

• Students will evaluate Mendel’s experimental design and describe the results of his experiments.
• Students will use mathematical representations to define probability and describe how it helps explain the results of genetic crosses.
• Students will apply scientific principles to explain what is meant by phenotype and genotype.

We will be learning about Gregor Mendel and his understanding of heredity. Students will become familiar with Punnett squares and utilize their understanding of Punnett squares in a lab on Thursday or Friday.

8th Grade Science: Egg Drop Challenge

Schedule Notes:

• There are no block schedules this week.
• Thursday: Gold has science first period. Black has science after Mass.

Newton’s Laws of Motion & the Egg Drop Challenge

• Students will continue to develop an understanding of forces and Newton’s Three Laws of Motion.
• Students will work in teams to construct and test out their design of an economical vessel to protect their egg.

• Students will gather and synthesize information about the three major fossil fuels.
• Students will apply scientific principles to explain why fossil fuels are considered nonrenewable resources.

We will learn more about Natural Resource Distribution on Monday, May 1st. We will review for our quiz on Tuesday, May 2nd. There will be a Chapter 6 Lesson 1: Fossil Fuels quiz on Wednesday, May 3rd.

7th Grade Science: Cellular Respiration & Cell Division

• Students will develop and use models to explain the events that occur during respiration.
• Students will gather and synthesize information to explain what happens during fermentation.

We will conduct a lab on Monday, April 24th. There will be a Chapter 3 Lesson 3: Covalent Bonds quiz on Thursday, April 27th.  Please encourage students to thoroughly review all notes.
