Welcome to Kindergarten!

Hello Kindergarten Families,
 
I am so excited to be in my ninth year here at St. Joseph Catholic School!
 

I graduated from Northern Illinois University with a degree in elementary education. I have taught Kindergarten for many years and before that I was a fourth grade teacher.  I am excited to be part of a Catholic school environment to cultivate a love for learning and to help my students grow in their relationship with Christ.  

In my free time, I enjoy reading, hiking around the local parks and cheering on the Chicago Blackhawks.

I look forward to a wonderful year!

We have started our Writing Unit on Characters.
Today's character is Corduroy.
Ask your child who characters are.
Help your child to point them out in books and explain who they are, how they look, how they act and what is special about them. 
Today in Mass, Father Jake told us it was Mary's birthday. 
He reminded us to have pure hearts and follow Jesus like Mary did.

Today 5 students from each Kindergarten class got to harvest the veggies that are grown to give to the Food Pantry.
Every Kindergartener will get a chance to do this in the month of September.

Today the Kindergarteners got to meet their 7th Grade prayer buddy.
About twice a month we will sit with our prayer buddies at Mass. 
Today in Gym class with Mrs. Medina the students worked on hand eye coordination with the volleyballs. Then they played Clean the Backyard
Today we went to our first all school Mass 
Father Conrad taught us to pray to the Holy Spirit for guidance 
"Come, Holy Spirit!"

We are adjusting well to our fun day of learning in Kindergarten. This first week has been great!  We are looking forward to a wonderful school year ahead!

Today in Math we learned about ten frames.
We used stickers to put them where they go in ten frames.
Please practice counting and writing the numbers 1-5 with your child.
We practiced together in class on the backside of the sheet.
