Week at a Glance
Week of: August 27-August 31, 2018
Math: We will begin our first math chapter, which includes rounding three-digit numbers in order to estimate sums and differences. Please help your child review his/her basic math facts as we start the new school year. Rounding is a tricky topic, and we are spending additional time on this topic.
Science: Please visit Ms. Papagianis’s page for Science information
Language Arts: We will focus on writing proper and complete sentences during Grammar lessons, and we will use different brainstorming techniques to plan our narrative writing pieces.
Reading: Our first reading story is entitled When Charlie McButton Lost His Power. This week’s comprehension strategy is to discuss story elements and to use background knowledge to help understand the story.
Social Studies: We will start our first chapter on communities as we learn what makes up a community, as well as where different communities are located.
Religion: As we begin our school year, we come together to pray and to learn about our faith during Religion class. We will begin this week by discussing how God is our Creator and Father. Please visit this link for resources from Loyola Press about family meal time, praying with children, and helping children develop empathy.
Tests and Quizzes:
Your child will have a Spelling and a Reading test on Friday. You can find the spelling list on the Spelling tab. The Reading test goes with our story and vocabulary terms of the week.
Your child will also have short Simple Solutions Math and Grammar quizzes mid-week (most likely Wednesday and Thursday).
