Week at a Glance
May 10-14, 2021
Math: We will finish up Chapter 11 on 2D shapes, 3D shapes, and the basics of fractions, on Tuesday. Then we will spend two days reviewing concepts from Chapter 11 in order to prepare for our Chapter 11 test on Friday.
Science: This week’s Mystery Science lesson will focus on describing objects as transparent, translucent, and opaque. We will define each of these terms and classify different objects according to their properties.
Language Arts: Our grammar skill this week is identifying linking verbs - am, is, are, was, were. Our mentor sentence from Recess Queen will also focus on this topic, allowing students to identify linking verbs in sentences and sort verbs into action verb and linking verb categories.
Reading: Our story of the week is A Weed Is a Flower, and we will use this, along with other supplemental texts, to work on identifying fact and opinion statements. Our spelling words will have comparative endings (-er and -est).
Social Studies: This week we will continue learning about producers and consumers, specifically how they work together. We will also explain how people can be both producers and consumers.
Religion: We will return to our original Religion books - Finding God - where we will focus our attention on the sacraments of initiation: Baptism, Eucharist, and Confirmation. We will explain how the sacraments help us find new life in Christ, and we will discuss how Peter called people to be baptized.
Tests and Quizzes:
- Math Chapter 11 Test = Friday
- Spelling Test = Friday (the new list will go home Tuesday)
