Week at a glance: 1/15-1/19/24

Fundations: (phonics) We will begin Unit 8 this week with “r-controlled” vowels. For example: /ar/ in car and /or/ in horn. Our trick words to practice are: different, world and answer.

Reading and Writing: (Wit and Wisdom) Students will write an informational paragraph on the impact plants or animals have on the Plains Indians. We will continue using our Plains Indians book to use text vocabulary to notice words inside of other words. For example: reserve in reservation. We will continue to work in small reading groups to use our decodable readers from Module 2, focusing on decoding skills when students come across tough/unknown words using context clues and prior knowledge.

Math: We will continue learning strategies to subtract a 1 digit number from a 2 digit number with regrouping. For example: 23-9 (take a group of ten from the tens place and create 13 to subtract 9 from) Then solving 13-9 and dropping the remaining 1 ten from the tens place to equal a difference of 14. Students will use base ten blocks and work mats to clarify concepts with their style of learning. We will emphasize stacking a horizontal subtraction sentence to vertical for visual clarity as well. Example: 23-9=____ to 23

                                                                                         - 9

Religion: We will continue working through our Reconciliation book to prepare for Reconciliation. Our God is a forgiving and all loving God. We will focus this week on Forgiveness. We need to forgive ourselves and others.

Social Studies: We will continue learning How do people use their environment? for food, shelter, and clothing. This ties in nicely with our Wit and Wisdom learning for that cross-curricular learning emphasis. We continue to use flashcards with text vocabulary: such as natural resources, conserve, pollute, and environment.

*No Science units until wrapped up with Social Studies!
