Math: We will spend the beginning of the week reviewing topics from Chapter 5 in our Math textbooks. This chapter specifically focused on place value. Students should have a copy of the review sheet in their Friday folders. You can find information about topics that will be on the test if you would like to do extra practice at home. You can also access it here. The students will take their first Math test on Wednesday. Then we will start a new chapter on Thursday, and that will focus on addition and subtraction strategies.

Science: None - see Social Studies

Language Arts: We worked this past week on a “get to know me” letter. This upcoming week we will continue with our letter writing as we write a “what’s new” letter that we will mail to a family member. Please be on the lookout this upcoming week for a paper asking for a mailing address. We will mail the letters from school, so you will not have to worry about mailing them!

Reading: This week as we continue with Unit 1 of our Superkids curriculum, we will spend time decoding and encoding words with the digraphs th and wh. We will also form contractions (e.g., it’s, they’re, etc.) and use onomatopoeia words (e.g., bang, splash, boom, etc.). We will continue working through our nonfiction Super magazine. We have learned a lot so far about things that are “new”, including new critters, ice cream flavors, vocabulary words, and skateboarding techniques.

Social Studies: We will continue learning about communities as we learn about specific tools and skills that people use to do different jobs. We will also learn more specifically about government jobs and community leaders. We will discuss why our government has three branches and what each branch of the government does.

Religion: We will transition back to our textbooks as we move into Session 3, where we will describe God as our father. We will practice praying the “Our Father” prayer, and we will be able to define prayers of praise, thanksgiving, and petition.
