Week at a Glance 5/17/21-5/21/21

Week at a Glance

Week of May 17-21, 2021

Math: This week we will skip back to Chapter 10 in our GoMath! books as we begin to learn about data, how to collect it, and different ways to represent it. Our practice throughout the chapter will include tally charts, pictographs, bar graphs, and problem solving questions.

Science: This week’s Mystery Science lessons will focus on sources of light as we explore the question: Can you see in the dark? We will discuss and compare reading different signs and words in the dark.

Language Arts: Our grammar skill this week will continue to focus on linking verbs, (am, is, are, was, were). During Writing, students will continue writing poetry. We will learn about and practice writing concrete (or “shape”) poems this week.

Reading: We will continue to work on identifying fact and opinion statements. Our spelling list will be a shorter list that is an extension of last week’s pattern of -er and -est endings (comparative endings). Your child will bring home their circled list on Monday.

Social Studies: We will discuss challenges that producers face and learn about ways that producers solve these challenges with inventions such as different irrigation systems.

Religion: We will continue Session 16 from our Finding God books, to learn more about the Sacraments of Initiation (Baptism, Eucharist, Confirmation). Students will learn about how Peter inspired people to be baptized and spread God’s work. We will discuss and each student will reflect on how they can spread the word of the Lord to others.

Assessments:

  • Spelling Test → Friday

  • Reading Test → Friday (on the iPads)

Reminders:

  • Please try to attend mass with your child over the weekend, either in-person or virtually.
