Home

Mr. Realmuto (Mr. R) holds a bachelor's degree from Robert Morris University. He has over ten years of experience in Special Education working at Barrington School District while leading a science club and has also been a substitute science teacher in the Schaumburg School District. His love for teaching science was answered when a position at SJCS became available. He looks forward to completing his Master's Degree in education next year. Mr. R. has two students currently enrolled at SJCS. He loves writing hilarious children's books and making homemade pizza.

ABOUT OUR SCIENCE PROGRAM

All grades start the program by learning about classroom and lab procedures, lab safety, lab equipment.

 

Grade level programs are as follows:

6th grade - Earth Science

7th grade - Life Science

8th grade - Physical Science

 

Our textbook for all grades is Savvas Realize. Students will have both a physical textbook and online textbook and access to this program.

Sixth Grade Science: This week, Sixth Grade Students will begin reviewing their unit on Cells and Microscopes. On Wednesday, we will be observing cheek cells under the Microscope. This Friday, students will have a test on Microscopes. The test will cover the basic parts of a microscope.

Seventh Grade Science: This week, Seventh Grade Students will learn about Apoptosis: Programmed Cell Death. They will learn why it’s important for our cells to self terminate. Students will also be reviewing for our Cell Part Quiz on Thursday. The Quiz will include the different parts of an Animal Cell and Plant Cell.

Eighth Grade Science: This week, Eighth grade students will review for their Changes of State Quiz on Thursday. We will be performing two labs this week. On Monday, our lab will be demonstrating a Chemical Change. On Friday we will perform a lab to demonstrate a Crystalline Structure.

Sixth Grade Science: This week, Sixth Grade Students will continue their unit on Cells. Students will begin to learn the different organelles that make up an Animal Cell. Students will also collect samples from nature to view under the microscope for our lab on Wednesday.

Sixth Grade Science: This week, Sixth Grade Students will begin their Cells and Microscope unit. In this unit, students will learn what cells are, the different organelles inside a cell and the different types of cells in the human body. We will also explore the world of cells under the microscope by looking at different specimens. In 7th grade, students will build upon their knowledge of cells as they deepen their understanding of cellular structures and functions.

Sixth Grade Science: This week, Sixth Grade Students will finish their lesson on Sea Floor Spreading. On Tuesday, we will go deeper into the Theory of Plate Tectonics. Students will learn about the geoscience processes to describe, and identify the varying boundary types ( Divergent, Convergent, Transform).

Eighth Grade Science: This week, Eighth graders will learn how to Measure Matter. They will be able to describe the units used to measure mass and volume. For our lab this week, students will be making Ooblek. Ooblek is a great way to demonstrate how one material can exist as two different phases of matter.

Sixth Grade Science: This week, Sixth Grade Students will finish their lesson on Drifting Continents. On Tuesday, we will begin our lesson on Sea Floor Spreading. Students will learn how Sea Floor Spreading affects the Earth’s crust. They will also learn how the use of Sonar has helped scientists map ocean floors and determine ocean depth.

Eighth Grade Science: This week, Eighth graders will learn how to operate a Bunsen Burner. As we progress through our eighth grade science curriculum, eighth graders will be conducting multiple experiments with Bunsen Burners.
