Week at a Glance: December 1st - December 5th, 2025

Sixth Grade Science: This week, Sixth Grade Students will learn about Soil Conservation.  In this lesson, students will be able to identify and evaluate methods of conserving soil and the way soil can lose its value by human and organism interaction. We will learn about Crop Rotation, Contour Plowing and Conservation Plowing. We will also have a lab on the Soil Layers.

Eighth Grade Science: This week, Eighth grade students will learn about Ionic Bonding. Students will learn how atoms transfer electrons from one atom to another, using electrostatic attraction. They will also learn how to interpret chemical formulas and names of ionic compounds. Eighth graders will also have a quiz on Covalent Bonding on Friday.

Sixth Grade Science: This week, Sixth Grade Students will learn How Soil Forms. In this lesson, students will learn about the composition of soil and how it forms. They will be able to identify the roles of plants and animals in soil formation. Students will also learn about the PH Scale and how acidity affects how well plants grow.

Seventh Grade Science: This week, Seventh Grade Students will begin their unit on The Periodic Table. They will learn how to read and interpret the periodic table and how to determine the Valence Electrons of Elements. This unit will prepare students for the 8th grade science curriculum.

Eighth Grade Science: This week in Eighth grade, students will learn about Atoms and Bonding. Students will use their knowledge of The Periodic Table and be able to describe what determines an element’s chemistry.

Sixth Grade Science: Sixth Grade Students will continue the chapter on Weathering and Erosion. Last week, we learned how pollution can increase Acid Rain, which is a factor in Chemical Weathering. This week, we will learn about the Science of Water Sustainability. Students will examine how pollution bonds with water molecules to create water that is not suitable to consume.

Sixth Grade Science: This week, Sixth Grade Students will begin their unit on Rocks and Weathering. This unit will teach students how different soil layers are formed and how weather causes erosion and different rock formations. Students will learn the difference between Mechanical and Chemical weathering.

Sixth Grade Science: This week, Sixth Grade Students will begin their Cells and Microscope unit. In this unit, students will learn what cells are, the different organelles inside a cell and the different types of cells in the human body. We will also explore the world of cells under the microscope by looking at different specimens. In 7th grade, students will build upon their knowledge of cells as they deepen their understanding of cellular structures and functions.

Students will learn about the geoscience processes to describe, and identify the varying boundary types ( Divergent, Convergent, Transform).

Sixth Grade Science: This week, Sixth Grade Students will finish their lesson on Drifting Continents. On Tuesday, we will begin our lesson on Sea Floor Spreading. Students will learn how Sea Floor Spreading affects the Earth’s crust. They will also learn how the use of Sonar has helped scientists map ocean floors and determine ocean depth.

Eighth Grade Science: This week, Eighth graders will learn how to operate a Bunsen Burner. As we progress through our eighth grade science curriculum, eighth graders will be conducting multiple experiments with Bunsen Burners.
