Home

Mr. Realmuto (Mr. R) holds a bachelor's degree from Robert Morris University. He has over ten years of experience in Special Education working at Barrington School District while leading a science club and has also been a substitute science teacher in the Schaumburg School District. His love for teaching science was answered when a position at SJCS became available. He looks forward to completing his Master's Degree in education next year. Mr. R. has two students currently enrolled at SJCS. He loves writing hilarious children's books and making homemade pizza.

ABOUT OUR SCIENCE PROGRAM

All grades start the program by learning about classroom and lab procedures, lab safety, lab equipment.

 

Grade level programs are as follows:

6th grade - Earth Science

7th grade - Life Science

8th grade - Physical Science

 

Our textbook for all grades is Savvas Realize. Students will have both a physical textbook and online textbook and access to this program.

Sixth Grade Science: This week, Sixth Grade Students will learn about Soil Conservation.  In this lesson, students will be able to identify and evaluate methods of conserving soil and the way soil can lose its value by human and organism interaction. We will learn about Crop Rotation, Contour Plowing and Conservation Plowing. We will also have a lab on the Soil Layers.

Eighth Grade Science: This week, Eighth grade students will learn about Ionic Bonding. Students will learn how atoms transfer electrons from one atom to another, using electrostatic attraction. They will also learn how to interpret chemical formulas and names of ionic compounds. Eighth graders will also have a quiz on Covalent Bonding on Friday.

Sixth Grade Science: Sixth Grade Students will continue the chapter on Weathering and Erosion. Last week, we learned how pollution can increase Acid Rain, which is a factor in Chemical Weathering. This week, we will learn about the Science of Water Sustainability. Students will examine how pollution bonds with water molecules to create water that is not suitable to consume.
