All of our students from kindergarten through eight grade are able to design and create in this innovative environment. Kindergarten through fourth grade visit the lab once a week for the entire year. Fifth graders come twice a week for the entire year. Our middle school students will be in the lab three times a week for the entire year. Our program is designed to be an opportunity for students to learn, collaborate, imagine, create and problem-solve in a hands-on environment.

Please click on the the STEAM Class Page at the right of this page to see what students are doing in the STEAM Lab.

My name is Jane Kennedy, and this will be my second year as the STEAM teacher at St. Joseph Catholic School.  I earned my B.A. in Elementary Education with a minor in Child Psychology from National College of Education which is now known as National-Louis University.  I have also earned my M.Ed. in Curriculum and Instruction from National-Louis University.  I am very excited for another great year of STEAM!
Grades K-3 will receive a Pass/Fail for their grade in STEAM. Grades 4-8 will be receiving a letter grade for STEAM.  I will link the rubric that will be used for grades 4-8.

After reading 'Twas the night before Thanksgiving, 2nd graders had to build a fort to hide their turkey.  They had a kleenex box, string, an unsharpened pencil, tape and scissors.  They had to have a pulley for the fort as well.
After reading the book Our Table by Peter Reynolds, the kindergartners had a STEAM challenge to complete.  Their challenge was to build a table using popsicle sticks and legos.  They had to have a 4 people sitting around the table and be able to fit all the food on top as well.
2nd graders learning about closed and open circuits.  They did a great job using the new Circuit Maze kits to turn on the light bulb.

Tell me and I forget. Teach me and I remember. Involve me and I learn.
