During science circle time, we explored whether apples 🍎 would float or sink. We learned what “float” and “sink” mean and discovered that apples float because they contain small air pockets that help them bob in the water instead of sinking.

Today we enjoyed scarf dancing in Music! Mr. Showstead played fun songs with movements for the students to follow as they danced with their scarves—moving them high, low, tossing and catching, and more.

Mr. Showstead also introduced the students to a record player! He talked about the differences between a record and a CD, explained how a record player works, and even played a song from Disney’s Fantasia for us to enjoy.

To connect with our God Made Me: I Can Hear lesson, we made music shakers similar to the egg shakers we used in Music last week. The students had fun pouring rice and noodles into their bottles and decorating them with stickers!

We connected the activity to our religion lesson by singing our senses song, talking about the different sounds we can hear with our ears, and learning how God made us and our senses. Later, the students colored pictures of things they can hear, including a firetruck, trumpet, and bell.

In Media, Mrs. Hoglund read Skippyjon Jones Shape Up and helped students identify the different shapes throughout the story. 

After reading, students used iPads as a learning tool to draw and recreate the shapes they saw. They did an awesome job following directions and practicing our iPad expectations. Way to go, PK3! 

Today, we introduced our letter of the week, C, through a fun, hands-on activity! Students used cotton balls to create their letter C while exploring their texture and learning about different ways we use them. ☁️

During our circle time, we shared our letter C objects and enjoyed our Jolly Phonics C story and song. Students practiced the /c/ sound while clicking their hands like castanets and did an awesome job identifying C words such as cat, cow, coffee, car, and castle!

Today, students explored new materials and toys during table activities as we got ready for our day! They enjoyed building and creating with Magna-Tiles and Bristle Blocks.

After a rainy day indoors on Wednesday, the students were beyond excited to get outside! They enjoyed the playground, played with our PK4 friends, and searched for fallen leaves. 🍂😊

Today we introduced our new letter, B! We colored a letter B that we’ll turn into a bee on Friday by adding wings and eyes. We also enjoyed our Jolly Phonics B story and song. For our B movement, we pretended to swing a baseball bat while saying /b/ /b/ /b/! 

In Music, we continued practicing our name song to the tune of The Farmer in the Dell, while working on patience and taking turns. Mr. Showstead also introduced a new instrument, egg shakers! 🥚🎶 We followed an action-packed song and practiced freezing when we hid our shakers behind our backs. The students especially loved that part!

Today we introduced one of my favorite storytelling tools, the story apron! We read Brown Bear, Brown Bear, What Do You See? while adding each animal to the apron as it appeared in the story. This helped the students visually follow along with all the characters. They loved it so much, we read it twice! 🐻

The students have been doing a wonderful job ending our day in prayer and remembering to use their prayer hands! It’s been so sweet to see ❤️

The students were excited to use Mr. Showstead’s unicorn puppet as we sang the name song for each friend! We also continued practicing with rhythm sticks during action-filled songs. One song even had us use our rhythm sticks to “make a pizza”—what fun! 🍕🎶

The students had a fun time using paint, brushes, and paper plates to begin their ladybug crafts while practicing our color of the week: red! Next, we’ll add black dots, eyes, and antennas to complete our ladybugs. 🐞

Today was our first day with our Media teacher, Mrs. Hoglund! We met some of her reading buddies, Elephant (Gerald) and Piggie, from Mo Willems’ beloved Elephant & Piggie books. We enjoyed two fun, interactive stories and even searched for another Mo Willems character, Pigeon. The students were excited to spot Pigeon since we’ve already read Don’t Let the Pigeon Drive the Bus! and The Pigeon Wants a Puppy!

For our science-based circle time today, we made an apple volcano! 🍎🌋 The students were so engaged and excited to see what happened when we mixed baking soda, dish soap, and vinegar!
