Welcome to Preschool at St. Joseph Catholic School!

I am so excited to be your child’s preschool teacher this year!

This is my sixth year at St. Joseph Catholic School and I am looking

forward to helping your child grow, and learn,

and have fun this year.

I have been a preschool teacher in Libertyville for over 25 years,

and am passionate about helping young children learn.

I believe children learn best with hands-on experiences and

help facilitate their many different learning styles

in a kind and nurturing setting.

We will have an amazing year together meeting new friends, sharing new

discoveries, and learning new skills everyday.

Our instructional aide, Mrs. Tina Truskowski, has much experience in the classroom

after being a aide at St. Joseph Catholic School for over 15 years!

Together, we help build positive relationships with children to help foster

growth and confidence in a caring classroom community.

We are both looking forward to sharing a wonderful year with your child.

Today’s Jack & the Beanstalk read was this fun one by Paul Galdone ((who also wrote our faves of The Little Red Hen and 3Billy Goats Gruff). We loved the rhyming text of this one! Preschoolers commented that the Giant looked a lot like the Troll in 3 Billy Goats Gruff!
Gina Words! During our week of all things Jack, we are discovering many words that mean BIG! Today we added “ginormous”, “gigantic”, and “colossal”! Awesome vocab, preschoolers!
Storytime STEAM: Gorilla Loves Vanilla
Such a fun read that was the perfect introduction to our Ice Cream Cone Volcano experiments!
W is for Worm! This one had us practicing positional words; such as over, under, in between, and beside! Each preschool had a “Walter the worm” that they used to follow directions!
Our seeds have sprouted! The children were just amazed this morning after seeing their plants! The clear plastic cup gave us opportunity to talk about parts of a plant, and how to care for them! Preschoolers were looking forward to caring for these at home!
W is for Woody, watch, water, whale, wolf, wallet, wand, wheels, wrench, and waffle cone! Super awesome!
Media with Mrs. Hoglund   Spring is here! 🐥 🌸. Mrs. Hoglund introduced us to a fun character named Peep the chick! We enjoyed listening to a story and watching a video about Peep and his friends!
Baby Chicks visit preschool! Mr. R’s science class’ baby chicks hatched last week! Mrs. Hoglund was just amazing to bring some down in their brooder box for us to see! So special! 🐥
Me Bag with Siobhan 💕. Preschoolers are constantly surprising us with their skills, stories, and silliness! But this one was the biggest! Siobhan shared a pic of her new baby due later this year! Congratulations to the Ziemann family!
Jack and the Beanstalk
We love integrating literature to our preschool curriculum! This week’s fairy tale has us integrating our Religion, STEM, science, math, and literacy lessons! We look forward to comparing/contrasting several different versions of our classic this week! Today’s read gave us a great intro to Jack and the Giant!
“What is a seed?” This week’s science focus is all about plants and how they grow! Preschoolers learned the 3 things a plant needs to grow. They referenced our vegetable plants and recalled how they were all started by a seed! The children sorted and categorized items by either seed or not a seed!
How Plant Grow Write the Room 🌱 ☀️ 💦
What an amazing job this group did of copying and writing words today! We discussed letter formation, letter placement, spacing between letters, and letter size! Copying words and material is a functional skills, which involves visual motor, spatial awareness, and fine motor skills!
