Preschool 3

Religion - Unit 5 - God Made Me Special - I Can Feel. The children will identify and show different feelings. They will explain that Godโ€™s Son, Jesus had feelings, and express a desire that others feel happy.

Social Studies - Earth Day. Recognizing that people share the environment with other people, animals, and plants. Instilling a sense of responsibility towards the environment, and building an appreciation for the natural world around us. 

Language/Literacy - Alphabet recognition: matching letters. Sequencing and recognizing letters in our name. Phonological awareness: songs, rhymes. Developing hand strength/dexterity. Focused Letter Study: Uu. Home/school connection: bring an item to school that begins with โ€˜Uโ€™

Math - Patterns: matching. Counting/number sequencing. One to one correspondence.

Preschool 4

Religion - Unit 5 - God Made : God Made Living Things - God Made Land. The children will explain that God the Father made Earth. They will describe and marvel at certain land features, and express a desire to keep the earth beautiful.

Social Studies - Scholastic My BIG World with Clifford: โ€œBe an Earth Day Detective!โ€ Science Focus: conservation. Theme vocab words: detective, recycle. Skills: group discussion, critical thinking, vocabulary. Preschoolers will understand the impact of their actions on planet Earth.

Science - Earth Day: Being Green. โ€œHow can we take care of the Earth?โ€ Preschoolers will speculate what happens to trash once it leaves the classroom. They will listen to our story. โ€œWhere Does Garbage Go?โ€. They will participate in our Earth Day Scavenger Hunt. Preschoolers will be introduced to the concept of recycling. Identifying Recycle Symbols: Recycling Relay. 

Literacy/Language Alphabet knowledge: produce letter sound, recognize letter names. Print awareness. Oral language. Writing: independently using upper/lowercase letters to make words. Letter Focus of the Week: Letter TUu. Bring an item to school that begins with U.

Heggerty- Lesson Overview: Weeks 19-27

  • Students will recognize and produce words that rhyme
  • Students will hear words that begin with the same sound and generate words that begin with a specific sound.
  • Students will learn to blend two phonemes into a spoken word
  • Students will continue to practice phoneme isolation with the final and medial phonemes in spoken words.
  • Students will learn to segment a spoken work into two phonemes.
  • Students will manipulate the initial phoneme in a spoken work with adding and deleting activities
  • A new skill will be introduced: Students will learn to substitute the initial phoneme in spoken word.

Math - Number & operations: count up to 12 items. Use informal strategies to share up to 12 items equally. Recognizing numbers 1-12. Sorting by size. Writing numbers. Patterns. Recognizing/differentiating:  left and right. Geometry: shape review. 

Preschool+Plus

Out of this World Travelers! - โ€œTo infinity and beyond!โ€ Preschoolers will have an out-of-this-world, month long study of Outer Space!  This intergalactic unit will introduce the children to concepts and features of space, including aspects of an astronauts job!  They will begin awareness of the Earth, Sun, and Planets, and learn facts that are unique to each. Preschoolers will be introduced to new vocabulary such as rotation, orbit, and axis. This week we will choose our Planets, make a model, and paint it!
