Tuesday, April 1, 2025 Homework

Welcome back, all! I hope you all had a relaxing Spring Break with your loved ones. It was great to see all the kids back at school today.

Two field trip forms came home a few weeks ago. They can be paid together in cash or on one check made out to St. Joseph Catholic School. They are due back as soon as possible. Thank you!

Math - pgs 717 & 718 if not finished in class with extra enrichment worksheet (Today, we worked on estimating products of fractions when multiplying. This came easy to those who know their facts. A little bit more of a struggle for those who do not. Please continue practicing multiplication flashcards at home, as we will be doing a lot of multiplication and division in the next few weeks.)

Science - None - Schiff only (Today, we read about the different spheres of the Earth. What are the four major spheres of Earth's system?... They are air, water, land, and all living things.  What are the two leading gases in the Earth's atmosphere?...nitrogen and oxygen  What spheres did we read about?...atmosphere, hydrosphere, lithosphere, and biosphere. Miss Bubis's class will read this tomorrow.)

Social Studies - Seven Ancient Wonders Chapters 1 & 2 if not finished in Class (Today we started reading the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World...chapters 1 & 2. Then, we completed questions about these two chapters. We will start talking about their projects on a Wonder tomorrow in class. We will also have an individual presentation project on a Wonder of their choice. Each person will present a different Wonder. I have a list and instructions for Wonders. These packets will be distributed to each student starting Wednesday for you all to review. This entire project will be completed and researched in school, based on my rubric, so there's nothing to worry about at home. We will be teaching the students how to use Canva, as they are new programs to the students, and how to create an interactive poster board/bulletin board online to present to the class. I'm so excited about this unit and the projects coming their way. They will learn a great deal from it.

Reminders:

- I offer office hours Monday through Thursday if your child needs me to reteach something in Math, Science, or Social Studies. Please email me for assistance, and we will meet via the Google Meet link.

Upcoming events:

~ Field Trip to Feed My Starving Children on January 30th, during Catholic Schools Week. This will be the 5th grade service project for the year. The room parents will email the chaperone information as the date approaches. Permission forms will be sent home soon.

~ Field Trip on April 30th to Kenosha Public Museum to learn about Native American tribes living in Wisconsin and dissect Owl Pellets. We also have another Field Trip on May 21st to the Civil War Museum in Kenosha. More info is to come for chaperoning by our room parents—field trip forms to go home in April. I am so excited about these enrichment opportunities.

Two field trip forms came home last week. They can be paid together in cash or on one check made out to St. Joseph Catholic School. They are due back as soon as possible. Thank you!

Math - None (Today, we worked at our table groups on a fun packet that used our brains. They were given five numbers, and they had to add, subtract, divide, and multiply to get the answer that was asked of them by using all 5 of the numbers. Watching them work at it was challenging but lots of fun. Please keep practicing multiplication flashcards at home, as we will do a lot of multiplication in the next few weeks.)

Science - None (Today, we watched a Bill Nye the Science Guy video on biodiversity, and the students had to answer questions while watching. My classroom will do this tomorrow, as we had Ms. Han and Mrs. Walsh do their monthly visit today.)

Social Studies - None (Today, we started to learn about the Trail of Tears. We did a Webquest packet on the Trail of Tears.... the students had to look up the website I provided and answer the questions in the packet from the website given. Then, we did a packet on all the American Indian tribes that were a part of the Trail of Tears. It was an interesting read for them all.)

Tuesday, March 18, 2025 Homework

Two field trip forms came home last week. They can be paid together in cash or on one check made out to St. Joseph Catholic School. They are due back as soon as possible. Thank you!

Math - None (Today, we worked on an IXL math lesson AHX on what we did yesterday in class: finding parts of a number using models. For example, what is 2/3 of 15? We would draw three boxes because the denominator tells us how many boxes there are. Then, we figured out how 15 would be divided equally into three boxes. Each box would have a 5 in it. Then we asked ourselves how much 2/3 of 15 is by adding the numbers of two boxes = 10. Please keep practicing multiplication flashcards at home, as we will do a lot of multiplication in the next few weeks.)

Science - None - Schiff Only (Today, we learned what a water cycle is.....evaporation, condensation, and precipitation. What three states can water exist in? Ice/solid, water/liquid, or water vapor/gas. We also took the lesson 1 quiz simultaneously, using our books for guidance. Miss Bubis's class did this yesterday.)

Social Studies - Finish reading chapters 10 & 11 in the Declaration books and the corresponding pages in the packet if not finished in class...DECLARATION BOOK PACKET IS DUE TOMORROW (We read chapters 10 & 11 in our Declaration books and did the corresponding pages in the packet to these chapters. We are off to a great start as they already love this book and all the information it shares with us.)

Friday, March 14, 2025 Homework

Two field trip forms came home earlier this week. They can be paid together in cash or on one check made out to St. Joseph Catholic School. They are due by March 17th, please. Thank you!

Math - None - (Today, we took our Chapter 9 Math test. Grades are in PowerSchool, and the test is coming home today in Friday mail. Most students did not do well, which I expected as many struggled throughout this entire unit with finding common denominators, and tests are coming home to be fixed and earn points back with a parent's signature. THEY MUST COME BACK ON MONDAY...I WILL NOT ACCEPT ANY CORRECTIONS AFTER MONDAY!  Please keep practicing multiplication flashcards at home, as we will do a lot of multiplication in the next few weeks.)

Science - None (Since we are ahead for Science, I did more Social Studies in class today with a Louisiana Purchase packet lesson. This packet taught them all the key players in the game, as I like to call it...like: Thomas Jefferson, James Madison, Federalists, Napoleon Bonaparte, etc...lots of great information taught with this packet. )

Social Studies - None (Today we worked on a packet about the War of 1812. This helped the students earn some national pride for the American's and learn how we claimed the land now known as the eastern United States. They also learned vocabulary words, like: impressment, nationalism, anthem, and secede.)

Thursday, March 13, 2025 Homework

Two field trip forms are coming home today. They can be paid together in cash or on one check made out to St. Joseph Catholic School. They are due by March 17th, please. Thank you!

Math - Practice Test worksheet - Chapter 9 test on Friday - (Today, we worked on a Practice test in class, and I provided another one as homework. This means they have practiced three times before our test tomorrow. Please keep practicing multiplication flashcards at home, as we will do a lot of multiplication in the next few weeks.)

Science - None (Since we are ahead a bit for Science, I did more Social Studies in class today with a First President's packet lesson. They learned vocabulary words such as Electoral College, inauguration, Cabinet, and political party. Some questions you might want to ask during dinner talk... What does unanimous mean? All electors voted the same way, or everyone agrees about something.  What conclusion can you draw from the fact that a unanimous vote elected George Washington?... maybe he was a popular guy, or people thought he would do a good job.  Here is an excellent inference question for this lesson... How did George Washington influence later governments?...he started the tradition of having a presidential cabinet to consult with him on different issues.)

Social Studies - D.O.G. is due by Friday (We read chapters 5 & 6 in our Declaration books and did the corresponding pages in the packet to these chapters. We are off to a great start as they already love this book and all the information it shares with us.)

Friday, March 7, 2025 Homework

Math - None - (Today, we continued practicing adding and subtracting “unlike” fractions - denominators with different numbers. We also had to take them down to simplest form. We worked out many examples. Please keep practicing multiplication flashcards at home, as we will do a lot of multiplication in the next few weeks.)

Science - None (We worked on a Scholastic News Magazine today related to YouTube…a subject many students know. We learned some amazing facts and information at the start of YouTube. We then answered a packet of comprehension questions and a short quiz on the articles in the magazine.)

Social Studies - None (Today, we ended the Constitutio unit with a Timeline Quiz cut and paste activity and a Bill of Rights quiz. The timeline had dates on which they had to pick the correct one that happened on that date. Bill of Rights was one of the first 10 amendments, and they had to match it to the law.)

We also have another Field Trip on May 21st to the Civil War Museum in Kenosha. More info is to come for chaperoning by our room parents—field trip forms to go home in April.
