Wednesday, May 8, 2024 Homework

I can't thank everyone enough for all the generous Teacher Appreciation Gifts thus far. I feel so spoiled, blessed and loved. It has been a great week so far. Thank you again! xoxoxox

Math placement test from Mrs. Hojnacki (middle school math teacher) will be administered by me on Tuesday, May 14 and Wednesday, May 15 - we will do 15 problems on each day and there is nothing to prepare for or study for prior to the test. After the tests are finished, I will give them to Mrs. Hojnacki to grade.

Field Trip forms for the Civil War Museum in Kenosha have been sent home. The forms are due back by May 17th with a payment of $17 either via cash or check made out to St. Joseph Catholic School. Thank you very much!

Math - None (Today we worked on the differentiated practice test for Chapter 11 in preparation for our Math Test tomorrow. They will have this same practice test for homework tonight as optional extra credit. They will also be able to use their conversion charts I gave to them in the beginning of learning measurement in Chapter 11 to use on test.)

Science - None (Today I passed out our Thomas Edison books and comprehension packets. I thought it would be fun to learn about another great Scientist of history. The students will enjoy learning about him as well. Today we read chapters 1 & 2.)

Social Studies - None, but D.O.G. was passed out and due by Friday (Today we read chapters 10, 11, & 12 in our Escape By Night book. Some questions to ask:  What deal does Tommy make with Annie?... He told Annie that Samson can sleep with her for a week.  Why do you think Annie changed her mind about telling about Red?...I think once she found our he had a two-year old he hadn't seen in awhile, she felt bad.  Why does Tommy suddenly feel relief while singing?...He saw his father singing with passion and the congregation was singing loudly with joy and then he felt this relief because he knew what he needed to do and what mercy meant.  What is Red's plan to escape and how will Tommy help?...Red has to cross a lot of main streets through Augusta to get to the river, but Tommy offered to help because he knows shortcuts through yards and such.  What two things does Red read to Tommy from his commonplace book?...Red read Tommy a two line poem from his book and a story of a man named Jonathan Walker.   What items did Tommy put in the sack for Red's journey?...An old t-shirt of his father's from the mending pile and some food, which was not easy to get.)

Upcoming events:

~  Field Trip on May 22nd to the Civil War Museum in Kenosha. This will be a great experience for the students to see artifacts and listen to real life soldier stories as we finish the unit on the Civil War at that time. Field Trip form to come home in May. So excited for this opportunity of enrichment.

~ After much research on my end, I have decided to end this year in Science with a bit of Biology. I surprised the students and told them that we will be dissecting a crayfish on May 24th and an earthworm on May 15th. I would say 99% of them were so excited about this. A couple were not thrilled with the idea. Please know that this will not be graded, nor would I make any student do something they do not want to do or feel comfortable doing. This is strictly for fun and is totally optional. If they choose to not participate, they can come to the Science lab with us and read a book in the hallway. I'm very excited about this opportunity for the students.
