Math - None (We did double lesson in class today to make up for the lost day yesterday due to the Field Trip. We worked on more conversions of weight and of capacity. Both homework sheets were done in class and turned in to me for a grade. Very proud of them.)

Science - None (We prepared to go and watch History Day in the Koenig Center. 6th - 8th graders made tri-fold presentations about a turning point in History and had to present it to other students and parents that came to see it. Think of it as a Science fair, but a History version. I prepped the students with packets of what will be given to them next year as they participate in this event. Then they each had forms to fill out based on their top 5 selections and why. These forms were given to Miss Fresh to look at. It was a fun afternoon.)

Social Studies - None (Today we chapters 5 & 6 in our Escape By Night book. Some questions to ask:  What happens to Yankee prisoners?...Some are traded back to the North in exchange for our men, but most are sent to prison until the war is over.  What conclusions does Tommy reach about Red and why does he think this?...Tommy starts to think that Red is not a Confederate Soldier and maybe he is a Yankee because he talks and sounds different with his accent from anyone else around.   What news did the Reverend reveal about the war after they finished reading?...The fighting was getting closer and he worried that is Georgia was lost, the Confederacy can scarcely survive.)

Upcoming events:

~  Field Trip on May 22nd to the Civil War Museum in Kenosha. This will be a great experience for the students to see artifacts and listen to real life soldier stories as we finish the unit on the Civil War at that time. Field Trip form to come home in May. So excited for this opportunity of enrichment.

~ After much research on my end, I have decided to end this year in Science with a bit of Biology. I surprised the students and told them that we will be dissecting a crayfish on May 24th and an earthworm on May 15th. I would say 99% of them were so excited about this. A couple were not thrilled with the idea. Please know that this will not be graded, nor would I make any student do something they do not want to do or feel comfortable doing. This is strictly for fun and is totally optional. If they choose to not participate, they can come to the Science lab with us and read a book in the hallway. I'm very excited about this opportunity for the students.
