Week at a Glance: Monday, April 15 - Friday, April 19

Notes: Wear purple on Monday to support our Military Families. 

Math Boot Camp: Tuesday, Wednesday.  2:00-3:00
 
Reading/LA:  This week we continue our Novel Study on our historical fiction book, "Number the Stars," written by Lowis Lowry.   
Section 2 covers a variety of activities that help students organize the information from the story. (character and chapter note taking boxes, questions from each chapter.)
 
This book is set in Denmark during WWII and follows a story of a young 10 year old girl named Annemarie. Her family helps a Jewish family escape from the Nazis. Needless to say this story covers a heart wrenching time in history.   
 
Objectives:
-Identify key events, characters, and themes in "Number the Stars" by Lois Lowry.
-Explain the significance of selected events and characters in the novel.
-Make inferences about characters' motivations and feelings based on textual evidence.
-Demonstrate comprehension of the text through discussion, written responses, and projects.
 
Homework for Reading/LA this week:
Monday: Copy vocabulary definitions into notebook. 
Tuesday: Write one sentence for each vocabulary word
Wednesday: match definitions to vocabulary words sheet.  
Thursday: Study 
Friday: Section one and vocabulary test (No homework.)
 
Note for parents: Students will have lots of time to complete classwork and homework during the school day. Any in class work that is not completed during the allotted time will be homework.  I hope this will encourage students to use their time in class wisely.  Thank you for your support.  
 
Spelling:  No spelling homework/words to study this week.  We will focus on vocabulary from our novel "Number the Stars."
 
Math:  This week we will cover Chapter 11 lessons 1-4.  Chapter 11 teaches about Customary Measurement.  
Friday students will take  a check my progress quiz on Chapter 11 L1-4. 
 
Objectives:
-Select and use appropriate customary length units to solve measurement problems efficiently and accurately.
-Convert between smaller and larger customary units using multiplication and division strategies.
 
Religion:  This week we will review the 10 Commandments.  Students will work in groups and role play a given commandment.  Students will present their play to the class. 
Objectives:
-Students will deepen their understanding of the ethical principles conveyed in the Ten Commandments by applying them to real-life situations, fostering critical thinking skills and promoting ethical decision-making.
 
Science:  We will continue our unit on plants and animals.  Our beans are growing! 
Additionally we will go to the science lab where we will be shown how to candle the fertilized chicken eggs in middle school science.
