Week at a Glance April 24 – April 28, 2017

Religion Objectives:  

“God Made Surprises – God Made Countries”.  The children will know that God made and loves all people.  They will respect people from other countries and appreciate the variety among people. 

Seeds – Jesus is Risen! The children will celebrate life and consider death as a part of life. The children will appreciate that Jesus’ Resurrection promises new life for us.  The children will find signs of the new life of spring around them. 

Science Objectives: 

Making plastic out of milk!  “How does a butterfly grow?” Life cycle of a butterfly. Lake County Forest Preserve in-school Field Trip: Butterflies. Children will “fly” through a series of activities to learn what makes butterflies and moths different. This hands-on program will let them experience the metamorphosis of these fragile animals first hand.

Literacy Objectives: 

PreK4 – Unit 5 and 6 review – What is it like to live in a jungle or a desert? What changes on the Earth and in the sky?  Concept words review of unit 5 and 6.  Letter naming and sounds, delete onsets, blend phonemes. Uppercase and lowercase matching. Finding letters in our names. Letter of the week: Uu. 

Social Studies:

Clifford's My BIG World - “What insect is that?” A moth is a lot like a butterfly. Comparing moths and butterflies.

Making bird feeders. Recognizing our home town names and our classmate’s last names in written form. 

Math Objectives: 

Learning our phone numbers. Number review 1 – 10. Sorting by size. Recognizing repeating patterns and continuing them. Patterns with three different attributes. Recognizing, naming and matching shapes and their attributes. Focus on shape of the month: Rhombus.

Afternoon Enrichment: 

Pirate Week! Discussing and recognizing good manners, graphing our pirate names, journaling, working with the “ar” word family – recognizing a pirate’s favorite letter sounds in speech and written form.
