Religion:   Pflaum Gospel Weeklies:  Seeds.  Lesson Theme:  Everyone’s gift is important.  Objectives:  The children will appreciate that everyone can give a gift of self. The children will learn that Jesus likes gifts from the heart.  The children will recognize that the Holy Bible is the holy book of Christians.  

**We will be attending Mass Tuesday with our Prayer Buddies**

Language/Literacy: Heggerty Phonemic Awareness Week 11: Students will hear and repeat rhyming word pairs, and begin to recognize rhyming words and non rhyming words.  Students will isolate the initial sound in spoken words.  Students will earn to blend two syllables into a spoken word.  Students will learn to isolate the final phoneme in a spoken word.  Students will learn to segment a spoken word into two syllables.  Students are introduced to manipulating parts of a word when two new skills, Adding and Deleting syllables are introduced in week 7. Uppercase and lowercase letters, uppercase and lowercase letters in our names.  Concepts of print.Focus letter of the week Jj.  Bring an Jj item from home.

Math:   Know objects can be counted, sort objects and describe similarities  and differences between groups, adding up to 5, subtracting 5 and counting with one-to-one correspondence.  Counting and tracing, identifying patterns.Color focus:  Brown Shape Focus;  rectangle

Science:  “Dancing Corn” Experiment.  The children will investigate different types of corn and learn how corn grows.  One of the foods served at the first Thanksgiving was corn.  The Native Americans (Wampanoags) celebrated with their autumn harvest including corn.  The children will predict if we can make corn kernels dance in a jar.

Social Studies:  Scholastic:  My BIG World Clifford:  “Investigating Leaves”:  Science Focus:  leaves.  Theme Vocabulary:  investigate, ginkgo, elm, oak, maple, veins, float, crunch, evergreen.  Skills We’re Practicing:  group discussion, critical thinking, vocabulary, counting, visual discrimination.

Afternoon Enrichment

Monday:  Our World and Beyond: We will travel to the beautiful islands of Hawaii.  The children will learn that Hawaii is made up of 8 major islands.  The largest volcano on earth is in Hawaii.  Hawaii is also known for growing pineapples and coffee.  We will all watch and try to learn a simple Hula Dance.

Tuesday:    We will continue our study of the letter Jj  The children will go on a letter hunt around the room.  How many Jj words can we name?

Wednesday:  Our number exploration continues with the number 10.  We will count out and sort 10 objects.  We will use our fingers, tally marks and the symbol to represent the number.  We will also review numbers 1-10.

Thursday:  Bushel of Books:   We will read one of our favorite  series of books...The Old Lady Books!  We will read There Was An Old Lady Who Swallowed a Pie by Alison Jackson. The children will work on retelling the story and sequencing the events in the story.  We will also practice tracking while reading.

Friday:  STEM   We will read How To Catch a Turkey by:  Adam Wallace and Andy Elkerton.  The children will use their imaginations and have to devise their own trap that would “Catch a Turkey”.
