ReligionUnit 1:  God Made the World:  God Made My Helpers.  The children will identify the many people who help them and they will appreciate them for this help.  The will learn that God helps them through others and see Jesus as a helpful person.

Language/Literacy: Unit 1 Week 3:  Friends to the Rescue:  “How do friends help one another?”  Alphabet Knowledge:  differentiate uppercase and lowercase letters, recognize and name letters, sequencing letters in our name.  Phonological Awareness:  Blend and segment compound words, categorize words, identify rhyming words.  Concepts of Print:  Oral Language:  respond appropriately, expand word knowledge, use language in discussion, use complete sentences of four or more words, label and categorize words, understand meaning of words.  Writing:  write to convey meaning.  Concept words:  class, give, help,listen, share, school.  Amazing words:  company, icy, shiver, arrive, exclaim, thick.  Focused letter study:  Cc.  Home/school connection:  Bring a Cc item from home that begins with Cc.

Math:  Numbers and Operations:  Use verbal ordinal terms.  Use words to rote count from 1 to 30.  Data Analysis:  sort objects and describe how the groups are similar and different.  Making spatial/ geometric connections by forming shapes.  Focus shape: Circle.

Science:  The children will explore the concept of Living and Nonliving things.  The children will describe and compare characteristics between living and non living things.  The children will examine a variety of different rocks.  They will examine the texture, color and size of the rocks and similarities and differences each has. The children will also examine a variety of slides from the 8th grade science lab of living things.

Afternoon Enrichment:

Monday:  “Our World and Beyond”:  The children will learn about our neighbor state to the north, Wisconsin.  The children will understand why Wisconsin is nicknamed “The Dairy State” .  The children will observe and learn how to milk a cow.

Tuesday:  The children will continue to explore the alphabet concentrating on the Letter of the Week Cc.  The children will find some C items in the room.  The children will continue to identify and differentiate between upper and lowercase letters.  The children will complete the letter C page in their journal.

Wednesday:  Our number exploration continues with number 3.  The children will find 3 of one type of an item. We will represent the number 3 with a tally, symbol and the written word.  The children will work on IXL math.

Thursday:  “Bushel of Books”:  We will read A Pocket for Corduroy by Don Freeman.  We will continue to talk about friendship and what makes a good friend.  The children will use their fine motor skills to lace their own pockets together.  They will then count out “buttons” to put in their pocket.   Using buttons and playdough, the children will first predict and then see how many buttons they can stack on top of eachother.   

Friday:  STEAM:  Mouse Paint  By:  Ellen Stoll Walsh.  The children will identify colors and associate the color words with the colors.  The children will observe what colors they can make when they mix colors together.  Vocabulary:  Primary colors, secondary colors.  They will experiment with 3 colors of paint and see how many colors they can make.
