Peek At Our Week May 27 – May 31, 2019

Religion Objectives: 

Father’s Day – God gave us Fathers.  The children will know that God gave them fathers, appreciate what their fathers do for them and show love for their fathers.

Our end of year celebration with our Prayer Buddies.

Literacy Objectives: 

Unit 7 – My Shadow and Me – Why do we see shadows? Demonstrate understanding of the meaning of a word. Concept words between, dark, light, shadow, sidewalk and wall.  Amazing words errand, pretend, whistle, practice, whirl and entertain. Using appropriate writing conventions when giving dictation. Participate to music activities through movement and play.  Coordinate sequence of movements. Use language to participate in a discussion.  Follow three-step oral directions. Make it: phonemes, letter sounds, name it and find it, delete onset, blend phonemes, identify letters and sounds.  Introduce possessive pronouns. Retell stories. Answer questions about a book.  Discuss conflict and resolution. Centers focus on ending and beginning sounds, counting syllables, letter recognition and sound production.

Social Studies: 

Discuss safety rules. Demonstrate that all people need shelter.

Math Objectives: 

Naming common shapes: circles, triangles, rectangles.  Sharing. Counting groups.

Science Objectives:

Sort trash – recycling vs. garbage.  Identifying “green” behavior.

Weather permitting - shadow exploration outside.

Afternoon Enrichment: 

Monday: NO SCHOOL - Memorial Day.

Tuesday: IXL Math and app of their choice.

Wednesday: Number exploration – roll it, write it, tally it and show it!  Afternoon gym.

Thursday: We will continue our study of Laura Numeroff’s circular stories If You Give…  We will sort rhyming words into their correct word family (-ap and –at) around our classroom.

Friday: STEAM – The children will build their own fantasy castles after begin inspired by the story If I Built a House by Chris Van Dusen.  Our last music class with Mr. Showstead!
