Monday, April 28, 2025 Homework

Math - pgs 805 & 806 w/ ruler  (optional: IXL lesson MHR...look it up by clicking the search button, typing MHR, and then selecting the 5th-grade lesson). (Today, our unit in measurement has started, and we worked on measuring with a ruler to the closest 1/4 inch and 1/2 inch. Please continue practicing multiplication flashcards at home, as we will do a lot of multiplication and division in the next few weeks.)

Science - None - Bubis Only (Today, we focused on the question...What is climate? We learned concepts like climate, latitude, and elevation.  So, what is climate?... Climate describes the pattern of weather conditions over a long time, at least thirty years.  What area of Earth does the sun's energy hit most directly?... The tropical zone.  Name three factors that can influence climate?... Latitude, elevation, and distance from water. My classroom will be doing this assignment tomorrow.)

Social Studies- None (We are now entering the unit on the Civil War. Today, we started reading pages 395 - 410 in our textbooks about the causes of the Civil War. We learned words like: abolitionists, Civil War, Confederacy, secede, sectionalism, Underground Railroad, and Union. Some questions to ask.... What was the root cause of the Civil War? - The root cause of the Civil War was a dispute over slavery. What crop was popular to plant and harvest by many plantation owners? - Cotton  What was the purpose of the Underground Railroad? - It helped many people make the arduous journey from slavery to freedom and abolitionists were the ones who organized the escape system.)

Upcoming events:

~ Field Trip to Feed My Starving Children on January 30th, during Catholic Schools Week. This will be the 5th grade service project for the year. The room parents will email the chaperone information as the date approaches. Permission forms will be sent home soon.

~ Field Trip on April 30th to Kenosha Public Museum to learn about Native American tribes living in Wisconsin and dissect Owl Pellets. We also have another Field Trip on May 21st to the Civil War Museum in Kenosha. More info is to come for chaperoning by our room parents—field trip forms to go home in April. I am so excited about these enrichment opportunities.
