Religion: We will be spending our religion time learning about the Rosary, which is a very important set of prayers in our Catholic faith. We will learn about different titles with which people refer to Mary, review the Hail Mary and other prayers, and discuss how a rosary is organized (what the beads mean, etc.).

Math: We are continuing to work through chapter 5 in our math textbooks, focusing on place value. Skills we are focusing on this week include:

• Skip counting by 2s, 5s, 10s, and 100s
• Comparing numbers up to 1,000 using the greater than, less than, and equal to symbols

We will also begin to review for our first math test, which will be the week of September 19th.

Language Arts: During Writing time, we will work on identifying the parts of a friendly “get-to-know-me” letter. We will also plan and write out these letters. The students will be able to write a greeting, a body, and a closing for their letter.

Reading: We finished up our Warm Up Unit for SuperKids and are starting Unit 1 in our SuperKids Hit Second Grade! workbooks and readers. The first unit will focus on spelling and reading words with digraphs ch, tch, and sh. We will also be reading fiction and nonfiction texts, while practicing fluency, vocabulary development, and comprehension. The spelling words this week are pronouns.

Social Studies: As we continue to learn about citizens and communities, we learn about the rights and responsibilities that citizens have in their communities. We will also discuss important jobs in the community and how different members of the community depend on each other.
