                              Peek At Our Week April 1 - April 5, 2024

                                **NO SCHOOL MONDAY APRIL 1ST**

Religion:  God Made Surprises:  God Made Butterflies.  The children will demonstrate an understanding of the life cycle of a butterfly.  The children will express an understanding that forms of life change.  The children will praise and thank God.  **We will be attending Mass on Tuesday with our Prayer Buddies**

Language/Literacy:  Heggerty Lesson Overview weeks 19-27:  Week 27:  Students will recognize and produce words that rhyme.  Students will hear words that begin with the same sound and generate words that begin with a specific sound.  Students will learn to blend two phonemes into a spoken word.  Students will continue to practice phoneme isolation with final and medial (Vowel) phonemes in spoken words.  Students will learn to segment a spoken word into two phonemes.  Students will manipulate the initial phoneme in a spoken word with adding and deleting activities.  A new skill will be introduced:  Students will learn to substitute the initial phoneme in a spoken word.  Understanding the meaning of words.  Engage in pre-reading and reading activities.  Concepts of prints and tracking.  Answer questions about a book.Produce words that begin with the same sound.Letter review Aa-Tt.

Math: Recognize and identify numerals 0-9.  More and less.  Recognize and  create patterns.  Matching shapes.  Counting and graphing shapes.

Science:  The children will observe the different clouds in the sky.  They will learn that clouds look different depending on the type of weather.  We will make our own cloud in a jar.  The children will predict and observe what happens when hot and cold air mix.  The children will help measure and mix and make cloud dough.

Social Studies:  Scholastic:  My BIG World:  Clifford:  “Watch Me Change!”  Science focus:  butterfly life cycle.  Theme Vocabulary:  Caterpillar, butterfly, chrysalis.  Skills We’re Practicing:  group discussion, critical thinking, vocabulary, gross motor skills, fine-motor skills, shapes.

Afternoon Enrichment

Monday:  NO SCHOOL

Tuesday:  We will play a letter game and review the letters Uppercase and lowercase letters we have learned. Can you think of a word for each letter of the alphabet?  How many words can we think of?  Rhyming word families.

Wednesday:  The children will continue to explore 2D and 3D shapes.  The children will make a variety of shapes using playdough, straws and toothpicks.  We will look for different 2D and 3D shapes around us.  We will graph the shapes we see. 

Thursday:  Bushel of Books:  We will Read The LIttle House By:  Virginia Lee Burton.  THis is a story of a horse that was built on a beautiful hill in the country.  Little by little the area becomes built up until the Little House is in the middle of a huge city.  The children will compare city and country using a venn diagram.  They will draw their own little house.  What do you like better?? City or Country.

Friday:  The boys and girls will graph using jellybean.  They will count, sort and graph the jellybeans. What can float in your egg?  The boys and girls will each be given plastic eggs.  They will break it in half and through trial and error observe what will stay afloat in their egg.  The boys and girls will also see how many plastic eggs they can stack on top of each other without falling over.
